Default Is firewall present in Nokia Siemens networks residential router 1600?

I have bsnl broadband facility and I am using Nokia Siemens networks residential router 1600. How do I make sure that this one contains a firewall or not? In case it does, do I still need one more firewall in my operating system?

Another doubt I have is whether this is an adsl modem or a router as claimed?

Almost all routers comes with inbuilt hardware firewall. It is sufficient for basic protection of your modem if used with a secure password. If you are in PPPoE (Always ON) mode, a hacker need to hack the hardware firewall first to get through the connection. But in case you use dialer (bridge) mode, someone accessing your IP can reach till your PC as hardware firewall is bypassed.

But hardware firewall has limitations. It cannot distinguish between legitimate requests by software or spoofed malware. Basic Windows firewall is only an inbound firewall and is too basic considering today's standard. So it is wise to use a good 3 rd party 2 way firewall to be safe on net.

    Try this guide

http://www.indiabroadband.net/softwa...selection.html (IBF guide for Free Firewall selection)

You cannot a modem alone. Even though we call it modem, CPEs are modem cum router.

Thanks for ur reply. However I do not understand from where you got the screen shot. If I load the page 192.168.1.1[/url] and give log in and password as admin, then a page opens where at the top there is "Nokia Siemens Networks" (in your case, DataOne is visible) and also I do not see any of the items in the table as seen in your case. Am I looking at the right thing? I am confused.
