Default Some websites don't open with my BSNL connection | Type 2 modem

    Hi there,

Recently I reapplied for BSNL Broadband connection, Unlimited 750. I'm using Windows 7. Using my old Type II modem, UTSTARCOM.

Most of the sites open fine. However, few sites including speedtest.net don't open. The Firefox 7 browser just display "connected to speedtest.net" in the statusbar with a blank page; no error message. It only downloads the title which displays on the tab and the 'busy' circle just keeps on rotating. It also happens with my online banking sites. Some software download sites, etc. Same situation with IE 9, Safari, Chrome, Opera etc.

I've tried various MTU settings like 1492 and decreased it up to 1452 (-10 each time). Currently it is set at 1500. I've tried the TCP Optimizer. Currently it is also set at G.DMT as it used to be earlier (2 years back in the same area). However, I've tried the default ADSL2+ mode too. Tried Google DNS, currently OpenDNS set in the router. Tried Obtain automatically, currently static IP settings in Windows 7. Nothing works!

The sites open fine with my Tata Photon + connection. Please advise.

Screenshot displaying the SNR values and other stuff are attached. Please feel free to ask more questions.

    TIA.

    hi itsme, long time.

Changing MTU should work. Reset your modem, reconfigure it and try. If nothing works, you can use Opera Turbo for those sites.

Also try flushing DNS cache, works at times.

    Hi Dilip,

Yeah, nice to see you again.

Okay, I'll try out your suggestions. I've set the MSS at 1360 and MTU at 1492 now. Still no go.

It appears I need a firmware upgrade or my modem is gone. My brother reported that lately this modem was acting up a bit with his Airtel broadband.

Still most of the sites are opening and it downloads from torrents just fine.

Reset before you opt for firmware upgrade. How old is this modem ?

Try MTU as 1480 and check.

This modem is a bit over 3 years old. It was reset one month back when I got the new BSNL Broadband connection. However, I'll reset it again as per your suggestions. Question is which firmware is there for this modem?

    Tried MTU 1480- Still negative.

    Seems your model is WA3002-G1.
I've set the MSS at 1360 and MTU at 1492 now
seems correct settings . Still try
change BOTH MSS and MTU default value to 0.

Can try FW upgrade of Beetel 450TCI models.
This board reject FW versions if not compatible.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm sorry I didn't get time to try them out. I'll troubleshoot the issue during the ongoing weekend.

Doesn't work. Thank you for troubleshooting.

Interestingly I can access all the sites (except banking sites) using web proxies like kproxy and hide my ass.
