Post alternative router for dna-a201bei router

    Hi,
i got connection at my home for BSNL broadband with dna-a201bei .

first of all i'd like to know if this is just a router / modem+router.
Since this is on rent and wired device, I want to go for my own purchased router .

need help to understand which all models are good to get this setup replaced.

do i need just a router or modem router ( confused as there are many on online shops).
if any device is proven working like breeze with BSNL broadband connection would be an added advantage as I read at many places about many hiccups with belkin routers.

Thanks forum for your help in advance.

How many systems you intend to use /
Desktop /Laptops in wifi mode/ Smartphone etc.

Your present modem has only one LAN PORT ( may be a USB port also rarely used ).

DNA A201BE may be similar to WA3002_g4/Beetel220BX group. Check screen shots in my signature link.
    Feedback.

Mention your location. I thought BSNL has stopped supplying modems. When did you took the modem for rent ?

first of all i'd like to know if this is just a router / modem+router

Modems cannot work alone, all CPEs that BSNL supplies (wifi or non WiFi) are modem cum routers.

Since this is on rent and wired device, I want to go for my own purchased router

What do you mean by wired modem ? BSNL broadband through wired line will have land line connected to modem. But you can use a WiFi modem cum router or a WiFi router with a non WiFi BSNL CPE to use with laptop and other wireless gadgets.

Please check this section, a few modem suggestion discussions are running. You may find them useful.

there is one smartphone and two laptops to be used hence i want to extend as well as make it less clutter with wireless router.

BSNL is still giving the device on rent at my place ( it's a small town in Rajasthan )

i think i would need much time to read the provided links after i'm back from office.
anyway.. what i understood as of now is that I'd need a new device which states itself as : Wireless modem router.

please let me know if this understanding is still incorrect.
thanks for help guys, but if anyone can suggest a known device working for my setup that would be a huge favour for me..

    Thanks,

If present modem DNA A201BEI is ON RENT exchange it for a wifi model.
If purchased outright , exchange may not be allowed.

If Wifi routers are available locally or nearby town a stand alone wifi router will cost approx Rs 1500/=
    ( Netgear wgr614V9/IBall baton/Tplink/ Sterlite/Dlink/Linksys etc ).
    Or rent from BSNL.

I am presently using a similar model along with a DIR-300 (D Link) for wifi connectivity.... My devices are two smartphones, one laptop and one desktop.... No problems till date (6 months)....

Try if you can exchange it with a wifi modem/router if you have taken this on rent. A good model would be VMC AN 1020-21...

thanks for all your valuable comments.

i have asked BSNL and they are ready for exchange the existing model with Wifi model.
the model which i have as of now has the similar spec as in Post#6.

I think I would go for it on rent.

    Thanks.
