Angry Sites not opening on BSNL Broadband. HELP!

    Hi..
We are on Home 8mbps connection.

It was ultra perfect till October 1 .

Since then, I dont know, what has happened, but we are not able to open many of the websites.

    Whats happening ?

We are on default BSNL DNS, since open dns and google dns looks like banned.

Let me know, whats the solution.

    Im tired of such problems.

^^ How come you say that opendns / google dns is banned? It should work fine. This sounds like a basic DNS resolution issue.

Banned, I mean, when I set to those DNS, none of the sites open.
I called BSNL Internet customer service and the engineer said, only BSNL set DNS will work and none others will.

Where did you change DNS ? Do it the corresponding adapter (LAN or Wireless) than modem. That will be enough. Using Open DNS with BSNL for around 2 years now (since Conficker threat), tried Google DNS and Comodo Secure DNS and all worked fine on my BSNL connection. Which OS do you use ?

    1. Try changing MTU to 1480 and check. If still facing problems with some sites, try values adding +10 to 1480. This is a trial and error method and you need to be patient enough to try different values to find which one is giving desired results.

    2. Use Turbo mode in Opera broswer. It can open such sites.

    Feedback.

Firmware version is shown on top. You have given SW version

    or
try 192.168.1.1/look.html. A page may open ( ignore fonts )

Post ipconfig /all data ( equivalent command for MAC not known )

You use 2 units ? modem and router ? Check if any of that is having an option to change MTU. Check for ways to change DNS in Mac in adapter itself.

Do you suggest me to enter DNS in MAC also ?

in BSNL modem , I have kept BSNL DNS.
If I change to anything else, everything stops opening.

So, shall I enter the same DNS on Modem and router and MAC also ?

You use 2 units ? modem and router ?

Need feedback. Mention modem / router - model and make

Do you suggest me to enter DNS in MAC also ?

Leave the DNS settings in router as it is and change in Mac.

Internet comes to this Modem. One port is directly connected to my MAC .
2nd port goes to the Netgear Router.

Ok, I entered OpenDNS manually on IPv4 settings on all the windows PC and my MAC and now sites are working, but very slow, though I have a 8mbps line.

Its only happening for 5-10 websites.

And see my router MTU page settings.

Do you suggest something on this ?

I had the same issue & resolved it by changing the MTU settings to 1460 in my Cisco RV042 Router. BSNL by default assigns 1460 as the MTU Settings for the WAN Connection and Airtel assigns 1492.

I have syslog configured for my Router & it was capturing the values 1460 for BSNL & 1492 for Airtel. I guess it depends on the routers in BSNL & Customer premises. But manually setting these values in my Cisco router solved my problem of accessing the sites like stackoverflow.com, bit.ly etc

    essbebe,

My setup is bit different as my laptop is not connected directly to the modem. Airtel & BSNL modems (in Bridge mode) are connected to Cisco RV042 router (Bandwidth aggregator/load balancer).

    Presume only for laptop.
How MTU is different compared to your Syslog extract ? 1460/1492 etc.
In wifi mode router MTU settings do not change.

Please Give details of the BSNL and Airtel modem/routers.

I have been giving "Paracetamol650 mg" for fever routinely
Sorry.! I meant Change MTU in modem if some web sites do not open!!
as per various recommendation/s in the web.
