    Unhappy Speed issues with ULD 3300

    Gentlemen,
    I just set up a ULD 3300 account for my parents here in HYD. I bought them a new DGN1000 router. The connection is up and running - sort of - and hence my request for help.

    ULD 3300 is claimed to be 2Mbps download up to 150GB. Here is what I'm actually seeing:

    Speedtest.net: 7 samples from 6pm last night to 6am this morning, average of 320Kbps download and 380Kbps upload

    Broadbandspeedtest.co.in: 7 samples, same times and time-frame, average of 600Kbps download and 400Kbps upload

    All numbers rounded UP.

    Obviously not even close to the claimed 2Mbps download. I'd be very grateful for any advice you may have in terms of tuning my router or talking to BSNL about getting the performance I'm paying for.

    In case you're wondering why my parents need these speeds, it's so they can skype VC with friends and family back in the states.

    Thanks so very much for your time and advice,
    Sanjaya

    Step 1:Check speed here twice.
    My Broadband Speed - Broadband Speed Tester
    or.
    Download a file from Microsoft website/server..
    A test download from motivebsnl site should show about 200KB/sec
    download. Anyway Download Not counted FREE.

    Step 2:
    Also check here ;
    http://www.thevoipguide.org/voip-speed-test.htmls.

    Step 3 :Later download application tcp/ip optimizer from speedguide.net.
    Adjust slider for about 2.5 Mpbs

    Step 4:
    Re do tests above.

    Step 5:
    Can try Open dns or Google dns. 208.67.220.220 or 8.8.8.8.

    Para two;
    If no improvement contact your exchange (BB section )to check up.

    Thanks much essbebe,

    Steps 1 and 2 failed because I couldn't get to the websites! Now I understand your later comment.

    Working on 3 and 4. Will keep you updated.

    * DGN1000 is a WiFi router only ? Or a modem cum router ?

    * How many devices do you have ? Mention OS used in them.

    * Did you check the speed on WiFi ? Connect using ethernet cable and check the speed. If you have another modem or a modem to which DGN1000 is connected, used it and check.

    * Which all security tools do you use ? Disable both antivirus and firewall and check the speed.

    * What do you mean by cannot access Microsoft site ? You were getting 300 + Kbps right ? Use Open DNS or Google DNS and check. Try Turbo mode in Opera and see if you can access MS site.

    Feedback.
