Default either wifi works or ethernet

i have a nokia 1600 router for my bsnl ul 750 plan
nowadays i don't know why, but it seems that whenever the ethernet connection is made to the desktop, the wlan doesn't work. Or if i'm using Wi-Fi and then i turn the connection on for the desktop using ethernet, the wifi connection breaks up, and even though it properly shows on my laptop that i'm connected to the internet, i can't browse etc, when i ping, it gives me a timeout on every IP except ofcourse the router and the desktop
