    Question WIFI stops working sometimes

I am having a strange problem with my ADSL2+ modem. The wifi of this modem stops working sometimes. Then i have to give it a restart and sometimes even restart dont work. I am giving a snapshot of my modem type.

Is it a hardware problem or it can be resolved by some config changes.

You could have at least zoomed in a bit to show which model no / make it is. Unable to make anything out of the snapshot.

Have you tried with another WiFi device ? Are you sure it is a modem not your device problem ? May be the wireless card in your laptop is faulty. Check and confirm.

    1. Mention modem - model and make

    2. Connection mode - PPPoE or Bridge ?

    To do

    a. Disable wireless, save, re-enable it an try.

    b. Reset the modem and reconfigure it and check.

That snapshot was not taken by me. I picked it from internet.
    Here is all you need
    Name- ADSL2+ CPE/IAD
    Model- AN-1020-21
    Type - UT
    Connection - PPPoE
I am sure its not laptop fault coz i checked with 2 other laptops. And when it happens the wifi indicator in the modem doesn't glow.
I tried disabling and enabling my wifi adapter.

How do i reset my modem?

On the bottom or backside, there will be a small hole resembling the vent hole. Mostly it will be marked as reset switch. If it is a button in your modem, simply press it, if a hole, you need to use a ball point pen refill and press hold the switch (inside the hole) for say 30 seconds when the modem is ON. This will reset the settings and you will need to configure again to connect to internet.

If that too fails, you may need to try a firmware upgrade or replace your modem.

When an electronic device is about to die, i.e., it is coming to the end of its useful life, such problems occur.

The problem could be with the modem. But even more likely, it is probably a problem with the power supply DC adapter.

If the power adapter or modem heats up too much and there is lack of ventilation, lot of dust, cobwebs, etc. around the equipment (happens to most of us), then this problem could arise.

Just a way that electronic devices protest.

This problem is really irritating me now.
Here are few points about my wifi modem:
    • It works best on ethernet.
    • Works fine for other wifi devices too.
    The problem is..
    1. If i switch on modem 1st and then switch on my laptop then it(laptop) won't detect wifi signals.
    2. If by luck signals are detected then it will not connect saying limited connectivity.
    3. I have to restart modem for connecting to internet(connects immediately after restarting).
    4. I am using WPA2 passphase for security.
    5. And yes this problem is only with my laptop and few months ago it was with my friends laptop and later got resolved by itself.
    6. I have done 2 fresh installs of windows but nothing worked. I am using windows 7.

If anyone have any idea about my problem then please give me some solution. Its not always possible to restart the modem when my parents are busy over a video call with my sister.

    Hi

    I have another problem.
I have 2 laptops in home connected to wifi router. Both were working fine till date (able to access internet ..)
    Yesterday night, one of the laptops indicates "limited connectivity" and we could not access internet (IP addresss that it has got is some vague one ; may be the laptop has allocated some autoip and not 192.168.1.x) ;
Whereas another laptop continues to work fine (192.168.1.2)
Any idea why the other laptop that was working till date suddenly refuses to connect to internet ?

IP addresss that it has got is some vague one
    169.xx.xx.xx ( Windows default ?)

    OPtion 1:
    In Network/WLAN/properties/TCP/IP/properties
Uncheck button Obtain Ip address automatically and enter
    192.168.1.3
    255.255.255.0
    192.168.1.1
    apply Save.

    Still problem
    mention modem/router/make/number and post
    as attachment *.doc ipconfig /all

Option 2: Test in lan mode.
    Para two:

Select your router from links below.
Almost all BSNLMTNL/AIRTEL supplied routers/modems listed.

I work at home and depend on broadband internet to make my living. This week I lost about two full working days because my broadband went out. My internet service provider (ISP), Comcast, was unable to get it working or even steer me in a useful direction, despite keeping me on the phone for hours. thanks for sharing the information.

Sorry for late reply, since it was at my friend's place.
My friend has taken to one service person ; the service person has told one utitity is not installed.
He installed "Intel ProSet/Wireless WiFi connection utility" in laptop ; My friend came home and it worked.

AS per service person, the above utility rectifies any (some) problem with router that could have occurred.
We dont know much about that.
