    Default speed problem

I have been using bsnl ul750 plan for 1.5 years and have been getting a dload speed of 200-250KB/sec. From 4-5 days i have been restricted to 64 KB/sec , since it is an unlimited plan ,, this is most likely not to occur.
Has BSNL changed any plans in the past week??
Well i have learnt that since my connection is 512 kbps , 64 KB/sec is an average dload speed ,, but how is that i used to get 256KB/sec for the past 1.5 years.
I even tried to reconfigure modem and every possible thing,, plz help me!!

No, no changes as far as I know. Me too on UL 750 since it was upgraded to 512 Kbps and getting only 64 KBps since then.

    Yes, that is correct.

but how is that i used to get 256KB/sec for the past 1.5 years.

Call it a lucky mistake by BSNL.

I even tried to reconfigure modem and every possible thing

Nothing can be done I think.

U cant really digest the thing that i was lucky!!
Had been using for months and BSNL employes didnt knew that i was getting 4-5 times my max speed,,,
Do u really think that a company that is spread over the entire country can do such a mistake,,, also i have dloaded many terabytes in that time and they didnt come to know that a person with 64KB/sec cant realy do that!!

how is it that i got no notice from them and they just suddenly changed the speed! moreover i have paid 750 only every months!! also the karnataka bsnl speed test shows my dload speed as 220-250 KB/sec and connection at 1.8-2Mbps

You can check the BSNL 3G section where members explains how they get 3G speeds in 2G SIM. And if you get a micro SIM which is meant for iPad, you get unlimited in 3G even on PC as BSNL has no means to find out whether you are using PC or an iPad.

And the night unlimited plan users have to reboot their modem at 2 am and 8 am just because BSNL system is not able to recognize the download time if the system is ON since 11 pm or so. And for a long time both UL 750 and UL 1350 used to offer 512 Kbps because BSNL forgot to update the speed of UL 1350 after updating UL 750 from 256 Kbps to 512 Kbps.

If you are using an FUP plan with 4 Mbps speed, your speed won't dip to 256 Kbps even if you cross the FUP if you continue to download without restarting the modem.

BSNL Rajasthan site has been infected since around 10 weeks now and even after repeated complaints they are still to attend / fix it.

I leave it to you to decide the efficiency of the pan India ISP.

    @nawnwa
There is something called "Internal Audit" technical/financial/admin.
Somehow your connection speed at about 2 Mbps speed ( if you had been on this plan earlier Home 500C etc with NU ) with Home 750
( speed upto 512 Kbps) was found out and the PORT has been changed .

For promotional offers also, 2 Mbps speed is offered for first 15 days
( unmetered) for any tariff plan. for new customers.

We are hoping that the speed will be enhanced to 1 Mbps for U/l plans, due to severe competition/ 3G etc. Even TRAI has recommended the minimum speed should be 512 Kbps for BB connections.

No point in complaining to BSNL.

also the karnataka bsnl speed test shows my dload speed as 220-250 KB/sec and connection at 1.8-2Mbps
Please do not test in Bsnl speed test sites. They are as good as the meters Chennai Auto drivers use!!!
    Do two tests here.

See, the situation is like this:

    a) BSNL provides BB service to various home and business customers
    b) You can get speeds from 256 kbps to 8 mbps on the same phone line
    c) The speed depends upon the plan

When you select a plan, the engineer at the network operations center in the local area sets the settings. By mistake or oversight you got 2 mbps instead of 512 kbps. Either someone realized the mistake or when they did routine overhaul/maintenance (including s/w maintenance), they set the correct settings for you.

You do not have any avenue for complaint.

As to when they will revise plans/speed, etc. only an insider can say.

normal? that's the maximum speed you can get in ideal case though you normally get 95% of the promised speed for any connection.
