    Default ADSL unstable hw 2 Query BSNL :(

    Hi Friends,

    How are you all doing, I am doing fine I am having this particular problem and seek your guidance on how to go about it. I am using broadband connection since 2006 and in chennai since 2009 from 2009 till date i have not encountered a single problem and most internal problems of modem, line, PC etc i solve by myself have some tech knowledge but not too much.
    My location is Chennai , and day before yesterday in the harsh rains thunder phone became noisy, no dial tone, ADSL link is there but no internet working MODEM (UTSTARCOM ADSL )TEST SHOWS Testing ATM OAM segment ping fail and then onwards all parameters fail.

    YEsterday being working day i registered complaint and was furiously following up with BSNL as today is diwali and at home phone is required to wish relatives and accept phone calls. But the height is at BSNL exchange no one bothers to pick the phone calls, still the online complaint and 1500 complaint worked and by evening it was ok, now since today morning i noticed two problems which never i had faced since 2009:

    1. ADSL link not 100% stable , earlier it was like bullet stable always.
    2. ADSL link flickers and goes off whenever the phone is engaged / talking.

    This is a pain for me, because always phone is engaged and THIS should not happen, modem connection comes from splitter... and till 2 days back tTHIS PROBLEM never came and was neither there it is born from today only
    Now understand situation same setup since 2009, modem gets connection from splitter and everything working fine earlier mom used to chat with relatives for hours and i used to work on net seamlessly, only because of that rain thunder this problem happened and the BSNL corrected it only to give a new problem. Because explaining a problem to BSNL is a big skill the person on other end does not even understand what i want to tell and dont know the tech knowledge these staff. Because no matter what i say they write their own complaint and the person reading complaint understands something , this is first complaint of mine in 2 yrs so 2 yrs kudos to bsnl for providing me uninterrupted service,, now also u need to provide same quality of service..
    Now how do I explain this to BSNL.

    Also curious to know that how BSNL works is the Broadband thing all computerised or electronic, do they rectify broadband problems through their terminal computer itself or through the exchange through wires etc,,. has anyone seen their internal troubleshooting setup/?

    And what should i do now:

    1. WAIT hoping this is common problem and gets solved by itself.

    2. Check splitter how to check splitter, in case splitter is out of order because of rains, thunder ( might be a case, i am not tech enough to check splitter) There might be possibility of splitter getting spoiled, not always BSNL might be at fault??

    3. COmplain to BSNL ..

    please suggest

    but during phone call adsl line status goes to handshake mode or training mode

    001:
    Inspect all joints for wetness ( due to rain water seepage)

    002;
    Check for rusting/darkening of the contacts.

    003:
    Remove the ADSL splitter/Phones , and
    connect direct to Phone Junction ( Even though the connection is DIRECT even otherwise ),
    trying by eliminating additional components cables etc)

    004:
    Try In a different extension PHONE PORT if available in the house.

    005;
    Since all was fine till date, no modem tweaking suggested.
    ( mention make/model/number )

    THanks will do the needfull modem is UT starcom UT300R2U and your offer is great btw modem i have not tweaked seems some BSNL problem is there will wait and see for one day then blast another complaint , this modem is faithfully serving me from past 5 years and also have connected it to dlink router for wifi access...


    also bb complaint status still pending just now checked gave online complaint ytday .. so might be they are still working on it

    Today went to BSNL exchange and somehow got it corrected as from the past two days ADSL link was on but no internet was there, in modem test Testing ATM OAM segment ping and onwards test was all FAIL, they asked me to bring my modem and after some time he gave it back to me and told that i had put wrong password i was wthelll still did not argue and came backhome and it worked, seems at that same time in the exchange someone must have corrected their line parameters, i had given lots of complaints both online and on phone so after coming home received two calls from exchange asking whether bb is working or not.. i told yes, seems that person told some others problem to me or did not want to tell the real problem which was at his side because as per my calculation it is impossible for me to change password i did not touch the modem at all and not even changed the password. NOw net is working fine with good speed still when i test the modem it shows
    Testing ATM OAM segment ping --- FAIL
    Testing ATM OAM end to end ping --- FAIL


    I hope this doesnt matter as long as internet works fine but now the router is not working dont know if the above parameters should be fine for router to work or will trouble shoot dlink n150 router after wards .

    ^^^ If you had never fiddled with router settings then I do not see why the router password was changed. If router password is changed, then we get a different error message such as "Authentication failure". The internet will never work.

    The fact that internet used to work intermitently means that there was no issue with password.

    The diagnostics test results should be as follows:

    Test the connection to your local network:
    Test your ENET(1-4) Connection: PASS
    Test your USB Connection: DOWN

    Test the connection to your DSL service provider:
    Test ADSL Synchronization: PASS
    Test ATM OAM F5 segment ping: PASS
    Test ATM OAM F5 end-to-end ping: PASS

    Test the connection to your Internet service provider:
    Test PPP server connection: PASS
    Test authentication with ISP: PASS
    Test the assigned IP address: PASS
    Ping default gateway: PASS
    Ping primary Domain Name Server: PASS
    Since this isn't the case with you, your problem is not completely solved as yet.

    @just4kix i did not get your point now internet is working fine but only problem is that it shows

    also did not get your modem tests here are mine mine is UT 300R2U

    Testing Ethernet connection to ATM PASS
    Testing ATM OAM segment ping FAIL
    Testing ATM OAM end to end ping FAIL
    Testing PPPoE server connectivity PASS
    Testing PPPoE server session PASS
    Testing authentication with server PASS
    Validating assigned IP address 117.193.173.144 PASS
    Testing Internet Connectivity
    Ping default gateway 117.193.160.1 PASS
    Ping Primary Domain Name Server PASS
    Query DNS for Alpha Networks Inc. PASS
    Ping Alpha Networks Inc. PASS

    now again what should i complain to them or will wait coz of heavy rains might be they are workign on some common problem

    My point was that all major tests should PASS (it is OK for USB to fail because in my case, I am not using USB).

    Currently you are not facing problems in connecting to internet but there is definitely some problem in line quality.

    line quality test is good but seems there is some common problem today also received call from BSNL asking whether bb is working or not, three calls recd for one complaint made.. because of rains water must have got into cables
