Thread: BSNL Broadband wired connection switching to Wi-Fi

Hi,
I have a BSNL Broadband Connection [750 UL ].It is a wired connection and ADSL type . BSNL has provided me with IP Address and other things to configure.
I need to change it into Wi-Fi i.e. i want to change my modem into a Wireless Modem/Router.
I have been reading some posts on Internet in many of them people have been facing problem to configure their Modem/Router and in some, people said that D-link Routers/Modems are very poor with BSNL BB.
I am confused that what should i do.

My Budget is Rs.2000.
Please suggest me which Wi-Fi Router/Modem should i buy.

To shift to WiFi, you can use any three of the following methods

1. Use a WiFi router with your existing modem.

2. Buy a WiFi modem cum router to replace existing unit.

3. If you are using Windows 7 Home Premium or higher, you can use a software called " Connectify " and make your laptop a WiFi hotspot.

You can get a WiFi router from iBall for less than Rs. 1,000. But if you prefer premium brands, you can go for Belkin, Linksys or Dlink. A friend of mine is using Dlink WiFi modem cum router which is working fine till date. A modem cum router is a bit costly than just router and may cost you somewhere around Rs. 2,300 from premium brands.

With type 2 modem provided by BSNL u need no other devices, http://www.bsnl.co.in/service/bbtariff/initial.htm Type 2 modem normally has an antenna, see essbebe's link.

My current modem is [Huawei MT882 Sterlite].It uses IP address and other things provided by BSNL i.e. it is manually configured.
It uses ADSL type connection and I want to replace it with a ADSL compatible Wi-Fi Router/Modem so that I can access my internet in my laptop anywhere in my home.
