    Default Tariff change BSNL

    Hi,

I recently submitted a request to change my existing plan to BB Home Combo ULD 900.

But they asked me to take my modem to the nearest exchange and get something called "multiport" configured in my modem. If failed to do so, my connection will not work. Can someone explain me what is that. I am totally unware of that term.

    Thanks in advance

Probably , they want to access your Modem Remotely ( via TR-069 client menu item ) to change the speed when FUP limit is crossed.
    My guess only. !!!
    OR
Multiport may mean access to Broadband . on vpi/vci 0 and 35
and IPTV on dialer mode with VPI /VCI 0 and 33.
( a menu option Interface setting is seeen in some modems )
Any way , after your visit to BSNL
please update information here with modem number .

It is probably "multiplay" and not "multiport".

BSNL is reconfiguring all older modems for multiplay which allows them to access the modem remotely. I have no idea why they wish to do it. They asked me to reset my broadband password to default so that they could configure multiplay.

Anyway, you can do what is asked. There seems to be no harm.

    1. Mention your location. How old is your connection ? Which plan are you using now ? What IP range do you have (117.xx.xx or 59.xx.) ?

    2. Mention modem - model and make. Is it a BSNL supplied modem ?

You can take the modem to nearest exchange and explain the same to someone knowledgeable, preferably JTO. I think mostly it will be needed if you are having 59.xx IP range.

Well, they can do reset the password remotely without the user's interference, even for some of the 3 years older modems.May be it applies to some of the modems which do need the reconfiguration.
