If your port speed is 2000kbps then you will get around 220KB/s as download speed, higher port speeds means it could reach 240KB/s.

Go to your modem page and look for 'Downstream Data Rate' and look at the value.

Something wrong with your end, I am able to download nearly 5gb during that period, consistently.

total download speed is ~220KBps as per bsnl portal.effective download speed is ~205KBps which is expected at ~93% of total download speed(remaining 7% is used in overhead).

I get a speed of 240-250KB/s, earlier when my port speed was lower, I used to get less than 220KB/s.

@standalone,port speed by default is set at 2048kbps or 2mbps for all 2mbps connections.you can check it in your modem synced data rate.no bsnl employee is going to change your port speed because you get 220KBps instead of 240KBps.it depends on network load.if you live in a area where there are lots of bsnl users & all download heavily during 2-8AM then you will get reduced speeds.

@rey619,your upstream snr margin is too low indicating some problem with the line or connections/joints.

Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

@whitestar yes I noticed that too, but atleast download margin is wonderful so I am cool with it.

upstream snr margin is important too.whenever you browse or download your computer also upload some data.low upstream snr will affect your browsing speed like slower page loading & lower upload rate in torrents.

Earlier when I was on NIB-I my down margin was 2048kbps and up margin was 256kbps, recently they shifted me to NIB-II, since then down margin has increased significantly and up has increased a bit too, it reaches upto 410 sometimes.

How much Up margin do you think should be there?

i think you are talking about line rates.snr margin affects connectivity while attn affects speeds.if there is a loose joint in your line then it will affect your snr & attn values.downstream line rate is always 2048kbps or close for a 2mbps connection while upstream line rate is ~500kbps though practically i get ~400kbps avg upload rate in torrents.

Oh ok yes I got confused between SNR margin and Data rate. Talking about Data Rate, in the screenshot I posted, how come I am getting close to 7mbps Down data Rate? Although my plan is BBG FN 500, which is capped at 2mbps.

That is the data rate set for your port at DSLAM and it is the maximum speed you can get even if the plan has bandwidth more than the port speed set.

Right, I was on the 4mbps plan for a month, that's when they increased my port speed and then I switched to the 600 plan.

Is there any plan (upto Rs 750) that is unlimited and has increased speed 1 mbps or 2mbps at nights? If there is no such plan then bsnl should consider this.

@elite2990,never use speedtest or such sites instead actually download some file from microsoft site(like 96mb directx redistributable setup)using download manager like orbit or flashget or IDM.on a normal bsnl 2mbps connection(standalone's connection is not normal see post no.20)it should take about 8 minutes.
