Angry Unusual And Unseen Problem Of BSNL Broadband

Hello guys,i have a UL plan 750 BSNL,In the starting few months it was working fine but now,it started giving me an unusual problem. It has two parts:-

a)My Link is steady, but i can not browse the internet, what i do is i switch the router off,and than on again, this gives me bandwidth which lasts for somewhat 5 mins. And after that the usual 'this page can not be displayed'.I know a bit of tick and tack of routing, and know that my settings are ok and clear. And at odd times i get that usual speed of 70-75 kbps, may be for 2-3 hours, but thats all.

b)I dont need to connect my router with the ISP with the default dialer XP provides,it gets connected automatically. But when I dial the default dialer with my ISP provided username/password I get funny errors.Sometimes 678,691 etc.etc.When Instead of PPPoE I set my router to Bridge Mode it gets connected through the dialer though. But in both the cases the problem I said in point 'a)' persists.

Im using 'Complex Modem' MRL21E ADSL 2+

I completely at my wits end and asking for help.

im using 'Compex Modem' MRL21E ADSL 2+
(a)IN DSL menu uncheck adsl2+ button.
Your modem similar to Beetel 220BXI. see my sig link wa3002-g4 quick guide ( less wifi page) for details.

(b)Device info /Statistics/ADSL give snr attn data

    (c) Since Modem is set for PPPoE"Always On" mode
    ( userID/PW stored/entered in WAN page of modem )
do not use dialer.or reset modem settings to "bridged".

    (d) From Device info give details of Software version.

    (e) type 192.168.1.1/look.html If page opens
get the Firmware version ( ignore fonts )
A firmware Upgrade AT YOUR OWN RISK ! can be tried.

maybe your computer get malware or spyware. you need to check something when you are not able to browse the internet and get 'this page can not be displayed'

when you are not able to browse the internet check the link/act LED on the Ethernet side, is it continue blinking or you can check LAN LED status of your MRL21E ADSL 2+ that continue blinking or not. If you see continue blinking then your computer has malware or spyware. You need to buy some medicine and give it to your computer for recovery.

ahhh essbebe so faster then me to post comments

    1. Try the following DNS values and check

    Google DNS

    8.8.8.8
    8.8.4.4

    Open DNS

    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220

    2. Disable firewall and antivirus and check.

    3. Install Comodo Firewall (or from yours) which all programs are accessing net at both conditions (working and non working).

    4. Use a live CD and see if there is any difference.

    5. Try a system restore to a date where you didn't had any problem and check.

Presume you did try a scan for malware.

Im Currently using Win XP sp3,should I switch to Win 7 Ultimate will that help ?
Also I surfed a bit about the problem myself on the net,and realized there are thousands more like me.But the problem seemed to be caused due to the Automatic assigned gateway.According to some group discussions,APIPA cause.I did the stuff they told me.Didn't help though.Regarding spyware and malware I run ESET nod 32,updated version. My system is clean. For P2P,I use Vuze(Azeurus).

I tried switching my DNS to Static address but it doesn't connect. What I feel is that BSNL is configured to take automatic default DNS's.The whole system freezes when I connect to a static address,I then had to reset my router.

PLEASE PLEASE HELP ! I've skipped college since the last few days and working on this any outside help will be much appreciated.

As they "Two Heads Are Better Than One"

    Looking Forward

PSont tell me to call BSNL CC

    Option 1 :
Suspect setup of your System, and make things worse. Like format New OS ( pirated or otherwise )

    Option 2;
Suspect Modem problem and test it in a friend's BB connection, and confirm it is OK. or test with another modem.

    Option 3 :
Give feedback for suggestions given by members.,
    whether tried or not.
For instance post the DeviceInfo /Statistics/ADSl /data.

" Two heads are better than one "
but the other heads are simply banging .their heads!!

    Unhappy

Look its working fine now but there are times when link is steady and there is no connectivity. My friends use BSNL Broadband on pirated OS's no problems thus far.

    Tried everything didn't help.
Now I checked with another Modem BSNL issued Nokia-Siemens,it was good for about 1/2 hour, then 'Link steady,No Connectivity'.
So I ruled out my Modem being OUTTA ORDER.

Did system restore a day back, updated drivers for NDIS and ethernet from Compex and ASUS.No Luck So Far Mate.I'm doubtful a complete Master Format will do the trick.
According to a forum discussion I just changed my ethernet advanced properties to 'Auto Negotiation' Under Speed and Duplex.
Enclosed Net Meter info shows bursts of bandwidth, for about 4 mins or so.After that the link is stable but connectivity is zero.I will restart the router to post it.So I get the Bandwidth Burst again.

Certainly, if you have ears to listen to them.

    # You can always change DNS.

    Tried live CD etc ?

I am not sure if ESET nod 32 guarantees that running it on your PC is a certificate that it is clean.

    @ redcrowned

You need not install Live CD. Download any live CD (like Ubuntu or Knoppix), insert into CD drive and you will get an option to boot from it. Boot into Live CD environment and see if net is working.

Also report the apps accessing net.

    Tried with AVG rescue,System Clean

Do they give a separate boot environment ? We need to confirm whether this is an OS / PC issue or BSNL / modem issue. Also try (2) and (5), give feedback.

Avg rescue removes unwanted applications ,malwares, spywares and viruses in Boot Environment.Just tried Knoppix.Internet works fine and runs great, but visually not good.
I used Knoppix for an hour no dropouts,Link was steady and Data Transfer rate was 60-70.The Usual in 512 Kbps.Everything worked like a charm
Back in XP problem persists.Resetted my router twice to post this.

I dont have a clue whats happening.
    Regards

    Unhappy Limited net access

I have a similar issue. The link on my sterlite(Smartax 882 made by huawai) modem keeps on coming and going. Sometimes, it goes after glowing for only a few seconds/minutes. Even when a slightly more stable/consistent link is there, I am able to use the internet only for a very few minutes after which I can not connect to any site even though the link lamp is glowing. If I disconnect and then reconnect ( I have a dialer as the modem is in bridged mode), error 678 and, sometimes, error 718 is shown. I have to power reset the modem and wait for the link and then connect thru the dialer to get whatever little net access I can before the same issue arises and I have to go through it repeatedly. One thing I have noticed is that the link, as well as the internet access, is continuously there if I don’t leave it idle i.e. when I am downloading continuously(e.g. watching an online stream) or opening sites one after another. The moment I leave the connection idle for a few minutes(e.g. when reading content on a webpage for some minutes and nothing else is being downloaded/surfed/opened), the problem strikes. I called the helpline and they told me to connect my line directly to the modem as they suspected the splitter to be faulty. I did that but the problem remains the same. The modem is almost six years old. My telephone line sounds a bit noisy but nothing that I haven’t heard before while the net was never affected. Is the modem too old? Could it be a virus? Please help me solve this very irritating problem. Thanks in advance.

    Try suggestions given above.

Use a different modem and check.

Try switching to PPPoE and check.

    This may help

according to your statement the problem is in your telephone line which I suspect, telephone line which is connect from your home telephone port to telephone exchange. You have week DSL signal and that is why you get error 678 and 718. Take your telephone receiver and try to hear carefully any cracking sound you get ? if you do hear some cracking sound then call BSNL to repair your telephone line.
