Mention your current modem - model and make.

You can either get a WiFi router to use with your current non WiFi modem or get a WiFi modem plus router.

There are software like Connectify which acts as a software router and allows you to make your laptop a WiFi hotspot if you are using Windows 7.

You can walk into any decent store and ask them for either of these which will work for BSNL. ebay has a lot of cheap options too.

    BSNL DSL Cable Modem
    seems some confusion here.

Bsnl supplied units are called ADSL modem, , because in same pair of wire telephone service is also available.
    Please confirm.

Probably you got model UT300R2U .
Anyway check here and see whether your model is listed.

    2.
ANY stand alone wifi router ( example NETGEAR WGR614V6)
used along with the ADSL modem will be enough.
    3.
Confirm , whether the the ADSL modem is on rent or purchased outright.
    More details on your feedback.

The modem is called ADSL Modem because Telephone traffic also
available along with Broadband data signals

Check whether your ADSL modem is listed here.( or in signature links below )
    http://mp.bsnl.co.in/bb/modems.htm

Give details of the (ADSL) modem Model/make/number.
    Any stand alone WIFI router ( ex: Netgear wgr614v9 4portlan +wifi )
will be enough. to have WIFI mode with above (adsl) modem.

Please let everybody know whether you want to connect your desktop or laptop to the internet. Laptops generally have wifi-enabled hardware whereas most desktop PC's don't have that facility, in which case you may have to buy some wifi card or such to make your PC wifi-compatible. Regards

    @pshrinivasan
whether Desktop computer.has PCI WLAN or USB WLan card >
    Good point.
Older laptops also required WLAN CARD externally. Not embedded in Motherboard.
Unfortunately thread starter seems to have lost interest.!
Anyway, a wifi router is needed.
    No response / feedback.
