    Question DSL stability issue

    Hi guys,
I know there are many threads already about such issues..but my problem is a little bit different.
Router Model: Nokia Siemens Networks (Residential Router 1600)
    Splitter Model: DB-103-16k

Since Last week, DSL link took too much time to get stable (5 min). I changed the splitter cables.Still the problem occured again.I left it like that.
Today I changed the splitter cable again :
    1.Terminal(Wire from BSNL Exchange)--Splitter(Phone Port)
    2. Splitter(Line Port)--Phone Set.
    3. Splitter(ADSL Port)--Modem
I started the router..the dsl link, power,LAN link got stable but there was no Internet and WLAN link.(According to me,the above setup was correct and router should work correctly).

Then, I interchanged the two of the above connections(without thinking anything). Now the set up is:
    1. Terminal(Wire from BSNL Exchange)----Splitter(Line Port)
    2. Splitter(Phone Port)--Phone Set
And my internet is working properly.
I don't understand how is this possible. Is the splitter different ?

This is how splitter looks like since I cannot link the snapshot:

You can use the attachment option to upload the image or post link as hxxp://domain.com instead of http://domain.com

Line port should have the cable from exchange and phone to instrument.

    For disconnection issues,

http://www.indiabroadband.net/broadb...ubleshoot.html (Frequent Disconnection : Steps to troubleshoot)

Refer this thread and you will know the reason.

your 1st configuration was wrong.Terminal(Wire from BSNL Exchange) must go into line & not phone port.splitter is used to separate signals as broadband works on a different frequency signal than the voice signal.splitter is used so that voice signal do not interfere with data signal.by using wrong port you introduced an interference which resulted in long time taken to establish dsl link.

    "Xray" of the ADSL splitter!!
The coils and condensers give high resistance path to DSL signals. and block it entering Telephone.

    One model:

If you connect BOTH Phone and modem with an ordinary splitter, and use both you are likely to hear "Nagin " hiss !!!

I connected the line port on splitter with the Wire that comes from Local Exchange and the phone port with the wire that goes into my Phone set.
The DSL is stable now. But It takes too much time to light up(around 5 minutes

    DSL.PNG)

I have attached my DSL settings and status. And there are two joints in the wires..One in the line wire and one in the wire that goes to my phone. They are kind of uncovered and the taping on them is also not proper. Should I remove them and make them again myself OR should i call the BSNL guys ?

Uncheck The adsl2+ button. SAVE reboot. wait for 2 minutes.
Recheck DSL status. SNR may improve.

You can scrap the wire contacts ( Polished bright look )
and twist them together. Open joints ( uninsulated portion) cover with Insulation Tape.
( If in Phone line a mild shock is possible D.C 40 to 60 V + AC ringer voltage). Take precautions.

It takes too much time to light up(around 5 minutes
With system ( computer ) switched on earlier and working ?
How you connect ? Dialer mode ?. enter ID/PW in system window ?

Try the steps above, if you are still facing issues, ask the line man to give a clean line. It is their job to do that. How far are you from exchange ? Your attenuation seems a bit high.

I haven't tried this. Seems pretty dangerous. I might mess up things. . I will call the lineman to fix this.

I don't dial to connect. It is always on kind of service(PPPoE).
I just power on the router and it automatically connects.I use wifi to connect to internet through laptop(Win7).

See last column. Errors have greatly reduced.
Uncheck Adsl2 button SAVE reboot. wait for 2 minutes.
    Expect GDMT to be selected.
You have to report any improvement.

Today it took 15 minutes for DSL link to light up. I think the problem is due to the faulty line. I will call the lineman to fix it and report any improvements.

I do not know the distance from the exchange. I will ask from the lineman and report it soon.
As far as internet speed is concerned, check this out.

I pay around 1100 for Internet. (500 calls free) Unlimited connection with variable speed.
Rest, I have registered a complaint at 198. Let's see what happens

Still no call from BSNL since the complaint day. Seems I have to call some BSNL officer to solve the issue.
