    Default broadband speed error !!

i have bsnl 750 home unlimited plan . and i get the promised speed . i had win 7 home basic before in which my speed was d - 0.50 mb/s , u - 0.30 mb/sec which is the promised speed . but i recently upgraded to win 7 ultimate and saw that my speed was d - 1.2 mb/sec , u - 0.5 mb/sec . but when i connected my another pc having windows 7 home basic , the speed showed d - 0.48 mb/sec and u - o.30 mb/sec . but after few days the speed in my win 7 ultimate dropped down to d - 0.50 mb/sec , u - 0.30 mb/sec . so i guess that my connection has the capibility to get 1.2 mb/sec as download speed ( maybe becoz there is a bsnl tower very near to my house ) but i guess my pc has blocked or i don't know something because of which my speed dropped . so anybody can help me how to get this problem fixed and enjoy a good speed ??

Me too on UL 750 and never got anything more than 512 Kbps till date. Your line is capable of giving speed of 8 Mbps or may be more, but BSNL has set a filter at exchange that you get nothing more than 512 Kbps till it is working fine. It is not done at your PC or modem level, so changing OS, PC, modem etc has little effect on speed if you are getting 512 Kbps.

    Just to clear your confusion,

    1. How did you measure the speed ?

    2. BSNL tower has nothing to do with a wired connection.

    3. Where you able to download any file at 1.2 Mbps ?

    i measured the speed through speedtest.net .
speedtest.net showed my download speed to be 1.2mb/sec . so while downloading torrents or any other file i get a speed of 120 kb/sec .
i know that OS has nothing to do with net speed , but i guess windows firewall must have stored or something because of which my speed dropped down in few days . even people around my house are also getting d/w speed of 1.2mb/sec (i.e torrent d/w speed of 120kb/sec) with the same plan .

Are you located in AP? BSNL is now offering 1 - 2mbps speeds for subscribers of UL750 plan, located in that circle.

Windows firewall does not store any kind of data like internet settings. It is kind of filter which allows you to set what is to be filtered and not. If you create an exception to a program, it will not be filtered. If you doubt it play foul, you can always disable it and check.

120 Kbps = 15 KBps. May be you meant 120 KBps which is close to 1 Mbps. It may be due to some offer in your area or some settings error in your exchange as you mentioned everyone in near your place was getting the speed.

yes i am in AP . how to upgrade to this 1-2mbps speed ??

yes i meant 120KBps . so what could be the reason that i got 120KBps in my laptop while at the same time my desktop gave 55KBps ?? and this continued for 3-4 days and then my laptop speed fell to 55KBps..!!

From what I know, it is not official yet. They might be testing the new settings. Wait for it to be announced.
