Default Strange problem with Dlink Modem DSL-2730U

Facing extremely peculiar problem with DSL 2730U modem.

    1. Since the time I have set this modem up, I cannot download my office email (exchange server) using MS Outlook. Moreover, it is inconsistent. Sometimes it downloads and sometimes it does not. I can access emails using my iPhone or iPad over the same wireless. I also do not have any issue in browsing. If I connect a Data card in my laptop mail works fine. So I guess the outlook or my laptop does not have any issue. Mail works fine when I connect to other wireless in hotel or when I am traveling.

    2. If I connect my laptop to the modem using a LAN chord, mail starts working fine. So it has to be some issue with the Wireless. I tried with another modem and it works fine. So it may be a specific issue with the wireless setup of the Dlink modem.

    3. This one is very strange. My Broadband connection has 4MBPS speed. When I connect using LAN chord, speedtest.net shows a download speed of 3MBPS. For the last three days I am seeing wireless speed is only 200-300 KBPS. I find this extremely peculiar. I dont think I can attribute this to BSNL service because it gives me 3MBPS if I connect through a wired LAN to the same modem.

Any expert help will be really appreciated.

TRY Channel Number 11 or 6.
Check power output is 100% in wifi page.
For Both LAN and WLAN same DNS is used say google dns 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
    in Network settings.
Modem similar to Beetel 450BXI/WA3002_g4 etc ( with some additional options )
Check in Advanced options extra menu items.
    Feedback.

    Default Thanks

Thanks Essbee. I have changed the channel to 6 and transmit power is set at 100%.

The DNS proxy points to the modem and DNS settings in my laptop and other devices are set to automatically obtain the ip. DNS server in the modem was set as select DNS Server Interface from WAN interface ppp0.

as per your suggestion I tried two options -

    1. Changed the DNS IP to static and used 8.8.8.8 as primary and 8.8.4.4 as secondary.

    2. In this case I have set the DNS as 8.8.8.8 as primary and 8.8.4.4 as secondary in the laptop as well.

    Unfortunately nothing changed.

    1. Outlook still cannot connect to my webmail. I would have understood if it cannot connect all the time. What surprises me is that sometimes suddenly it connects and downloads and most of the time it does not.

    2. Speed over Wired LAN is 3MBPS and over wireless only around 500KBPS

(1)Do speed test in LAN mode only
    (2) Then in wifi mode.
    (3) copy/paste links.
My Broadband Speed - Broadband Speed Tester

Tried speedtest at the link suggested by you. LAN speed is very good.
    Date Download Speed Upload Speed
    Today 04:10 7502 kbps (938kB/s) 354 kbps (44.3kB/s)

the tool is crawling on wireless. Once showed 80KBPS and then getting stuck at preparing to download. Wireless is crawling.

Tried inserting image but looks like I have to have 15 posts to be able to do that.

Anyways, I sincerely appreciate the willingness to help each other in this forum and thanks a lot to you Essbebe for prompt response with the intent to help.

I just cracked the problem now. Here is how.

I noticed the url of my modem was 192.168.2.1. I remembered seeing it to be 192.168.1.1 in my earlier modem. I restored the factory settings of my modem and did the complete configuration for BSNL once again with 192.168.1.1. Not sure how it became 192.168.2.1. By default the channel comes as 1. I selected it to 11 as per your suggestion earlier. Ensured that the transmit power is at 100% and used the selection of DNS server from LAN interface (Did not want to google dns right now).

Things are working fine and I am getting 3MBPS speed over wireless as well.

Really appreciate again for all your help.

    Congratulations.
    Appreciate nice feedback.
Your report LAN mode speed OK , made us to check wifi side only.
Ipconfig /all gave the clue to you I think. Not really convinced.
Different IP's needed for stand alone adsl modem and stand alone wifi router.

Check your USERCP for rep ++ 28 points

See the Yellow Icon ( Postcard type )
    Insert the link say ( delete http://) http:// tinypic.com ....... etc
keep picture size readable and within this page limits.
    or
"Go Advanced " Scroll Down" Attachments "manage attachments
Upload screen shot from Hard disk or external site.

Post/insert speed test for both modes for thread completion.
