Default 750 UL 512 speed, youtube is very slow

hello, I have 750 UL 512 speed plan at home, but youtube which was running perfectly for 1.5 years, suddenly became slow. I ran anti-virus resulting in no virus. I cleared all unnecessary files. I complained to BSNL but they just sent an engineer to check the connection which was running okay. I ran speedtest , got download speed as 0.48 kbps , i am not a technical guy so dont know what more i can do. kindly help.

Download any file from Microsoft using IDM or any good download manager and report the speed here.

    0.48 kbps or 0.48 Mbps ?

Post the speedtest result as hxxp://link.com instead of http://link.com

Do you have any downloads running in background ? Or any software updates like antivirus / windows updates ? Try using another browser and check.

If you use torrents, close it and check. Have a word with friends in your area and check if they are facing any issues.

    Hi Dilip,

When youtube was running, I tried to check the speed on speedtest.net. I am trying to attach speed.JPG

it gave download speed as 0.29 mb/s, upload 0.68 mb/s, ping 36 ms

i have Symantec antivirus. I dont have any downloads running in background.

also when i try to post it says here in this site that using hxxp, You are only allowed to post URLs to other sites after you have made 15 posts or more.

When YouTube runs, bandwidth is consumed by it. So speedtest will show low speed only. If you intend to check speed, better try a download from Microsoft when nothing else is using net.

750 Ul does not give sufficient speed to watch You Tube smoothly. What it gives, a speed of 1/2 Mbps (64 KBps which comes like 55-60 KBps). At least you should have 80 KBps for smooth watching of You Tube. Another thing is that, sometimes speed may has been slow from the server and then you think that something has gone wrong with your connection. If problem persists then you can try TCP Optimizer(Google it).

Use the latest stable release of Firefox or Maxthon browser.

    hi Zerotolerance,

    Thank you for your response.

I was able to watch youtube smoothly for 1.5 years. Now all of a sudden since last few weeks it has gone slow.

    Vishu.

i am confused whether the culprit is internet connection speed or my pc, becuz both of the guys whom i called are pointing fingers to each other. M not a technical guy to understand it so dont know which way to go.

tcp optimizer is only good if you use XP & bridge mode(in which you enter your bsnl username/pw in windows to connect).it is of not much use if you use windows vista/7 & use pppoe mode(in which your id/pw is saved in modem & you get connected by just turning on the modem).you can test how much speed youtube is using by installina a bandwidth monitoring software like Networx.once your video star streaming you can move your mouse pointer over networx icon in systray to see speed of the connection.if it reports ~55KBps then most likely nothing is wrong in your pc.

After downloading TCP Optimizer run it (run it as administrator if you are using windows 7).
There is a sliding bar on top of options to adjust connection speed. slide the bar up to 512 kbps. you can see the speed you are adjusting in bracket where 'Connection Speed" is written(On the top). In the bottom click on radio button on optimal settings. then lick on apply changes. I think it will improve your speed because everybody admire its effectiveness. Personally I do not use this program because I found "Auslogics Boost Speed " more comprehensive and useful. Whenever I felt any internal settings level problem with my connection I used Auslogics and it fixed the problem for me. Its my personal experience. When I Install windows and at first it is unable to connect to internet I use Auslogics. I do not know what it does but it changes some settings and everything becomes fine. You can download it from torrent.com. Or I can mail it to you. Hope this will help you. Friend I am just trying to help you with what I know if it does not work please don't mind.

Switch off the modem, restart your computer, close all your browsers, messengers, outlook, torrent clients, etc that use internet. Switch on your modem. Open a browser and nothing else. Then go to microsoft website and download IE with a third party download manager like IDM or whatever you use. Now close the browser and see the speed in the download manager. If it comes near 55kBps or 440kbps, your internet connection is fine and you dont need to use tcp optimiser or boost speed at all.

I was able to watch youtube smoothly for 1.5 years. Now all of a sudden since last few weeks it has gone slow.
Now open a video in youtube that you think you have watched smoothly before. If it doesn't work. Change browser and try.

Youtube by default sets the video reso according to your speed. But it also gives you an option to 'always show the video in best quality' - something that needs a faster connection than 512kbps. Maybe you are using this option. Try logging out of youtube and clearing all cookies in your browser.

Maybe you can post a youtube link and mention at what reso you were able to see it smoothly, so someone with 512kbps can check.

Another reason could be youtube now sets a higher reso as default for the speed you have.

This is all I could think of.

    To do

    1. Disable antivirus and firewall.

    2. Use a new installation of Chrome.

    3. Make sure nothing is using net.

    Feedback.

What bitrate (quality) are you watching youtube videos on ? 750ul will get stuck on most bitrates.

Post some tracerts/pings to servers near or in the same continent in which the youtube vid is hosted.

    Or even a speedtest link.

OBVIOUSLY do these when nothing else is running since a full bandwidth HD video will choke your connection.

Also don't just speedtest to the default(indian) server. It's not very useful information; go to a server near where the youtube video is hosted.

Yep, try only 360p. Any thing above is a nightmare with UL 750.

360p gets stuck at times and hangs on 512 speed. Better is to watch at 240P and it will be smooth and your videos will not get stuck. I am myself planning to switch to a faster speed connection for watching high quality videos.

Even better- instead of trying to watch a live youtube video just download it; then you won't have to bother about buffering.

Pretty simple really get firefox and any standard video downloader.

actually I am also using UL 750 Plan, & honestly saying you don't get more than 55-60Kbps on average.....and presently I don't even get 20-30 Kbps....I think BSNL is having some issues ....... & if you want watch Youtube videos without much lagging switch 240p Resolution & try, coz what sped we have ryte now you can think that the video will be flawless...else upgrade to High plan for smooth experience.....

Combo 500 and 600 are good only for downloaders. If choosen, you will be forced to stay awake and watch videos between 2-8 or loose the very little bandwidth available for day time.
