    Default Bsnl Stopped giving Modems

I am from a district of Orissa..I am having an EVDO connection but its service is very poor recently.

I am applying for a new Broadband conenction of 512kbps UL plan...But i was told that BSNL is no more giving modems.

Kindly let me know which modem to buy.In my place only DLink and Teracom modems are available...Which of them to buy..

I am also worried about the configuration part..
Should i opt for wifi modem?
Speed will be good enough for wifi? i doubt so...because the speed of EVDO is reall sucking these days.

    Kindly Help,

    Regards Jagan

You may opt for Dlink models.

The data from landline adsl line are again routed via a wifi router.
    ( different to EV-DO mode )
    Possible choice ;
Dlink DSL 2520U ( No wireless router)
Dlink DSL 2730U ( with provision to connect 4 desktops with cables and many laptops/cellphones etc in WIFI mode without wires )

Thanks Ess... Which one you will recommend? Teracomm vs Dlink....Pricewise and performance wise..

One more thing...I am not sure if bsnl is giving wireless broadband in my town or not...so choosing wifi modem will be good enough because as such broadband service is not the best one here in my town

If you get a wifi router from BSNL on RENTAL Rs 80/=PM deposit rs 1000/= get used to it AND when you decide to acquire laptop smartphones etc, and not happy with its performance , you can return it in working condition. and get credit for security deposit made.

The Wireless signals is created by the router and not by BSNL
( you get the data from landline which can be connected to LAN port
or converted to wifi signals for laptop etc . )

Report the Dlink models available with price quoted.

A simple adsl modem price starts from Rs 1000/= to Rs1200/=
Wifi router to use with above Rs 1500/= onwards.
A 3-in one modem+4lanport/+wifi mode cost approx Rs 2300 and above.

I think it same everywhere about Modem renting by BSNL. I was told by a BSNL rep that BSNL was incurring a huge loss due to this Model sale/Rental. Also he told me that there were huge scams in the tender process in buying the modems by BSNL. That is the reason why BSNL stopped selling/renting the Modems directly. But strangely it is not displyed in any of their websites..

In Chennai I find a person( probably a franchisee) sitting in the Exchange CC center selling some models . Ut300r2U and Smc wiffi routers. will checkup on next visit.
Now If I have to sell different models , i should spread the models on the Platform outside the Exchange ( may be bribe the policeman too !!)

Asus DSL N10 Modem is the best Wi Fi modem. Easy to setup and with 5dbi Antenna you can access your modem in 100 Meeter of radius. And it cost from Rs. 2500 (in My city it cost 2900). I am using this modem since last 6 months on BSNL BB with UL499 plan. It works flawlessly with Not only BSNL but all other ADSL service Providers. It has preinstalled all the ADSL service provider's settings. Just connect the telephone line. Modem recognize the setting and company and assign automatically settings to the device. You have to enter UN and PW only.
