Thread: Problem with connecting to the net with Netgear N150 DGN 1000 modem+router

Hi guys my friend recently bought a new Netgear N150 DGN 1000 modem+router. He set it up seeing some guide. He bought the new modem coz his old modem that BSNL gave him stopped working . He set it up using some setting he saw from online. He uses BSNL 750 UL plan and he is been able to access the internet and download stuffs at max speed. But some websites never load for him like facebook , yahoo and many other forums and dropbox doesn't work either . He is using windows 7 and has norton 2012 as AV . He tried shutting down the firewall and browsing but the site never loaded before using this modem he could access all the site with ease with the old BSNL modem on the same OS. He also tried it on linux and the site mentioned above doesn't work .
The old Modem he had was Ut300r2U . There are no problems with the browsers too Added some images to the attachment

Try mtu value 1492 , 1460 or 1400 or in steps of 8. higher the better

Where can i change that ?? And what does it have to do with sites getting blocked ? Please explain

In computer:To see what interfaces you have on your computer, type

netsh interface ipv4 show subinterfaces

To change the MTU, type
netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface "Local Area Connection" mtu=nnnn store=persistent
where
Local Area Connection is the name of the network connection on your computer, from the list obtained above.
nnnn is the desired value for MTU.
Reboot after making the change.

The largest possible non-fragmented packet is 1464  (1492 - 28 ICMP & IP headers).
You can set your MTU to 1492

and mine is already set to 1492

when i typed netsh interface ipv4 show subinterfaces
i got

then i changed to 1492 . Facebook is loading now but it doesn't load fully . still experiencing the same problem with yahoo and dropbox .

Try with MTU 1430 or 1400. ( reported working : by other users )

[i used this command to set an mtu value of 1460 under windows
"netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface "Local Area Connection" mtu=1460 store=persistent"

although i was having 1460 under my router settings, windows was showing 1500. After this both show 1460 and all sites work

He tried 1430 , everything works like a charm and there is no firmware update ATM. In the router settings still 1492 is displayed as MTU but in CMD it is 1430 mate. My friend thanx you a lot . Thank you very much mate

I faced the same problem with the same model modem+router. Yahoo was not getting loaded aas well as some of the news articles. In the case of Deccan chronicle and Economic times the front page with headlines got loaded alright but when we click on the headline the news item did notget loaded. Some of the video news TV were also not working.
Taking the clue from esbebe's sugestion we tried Run command for setting MTU value but it was not working. changing the Netgear parameter as 1460 also dint work. Finally registry was opened to introduce the MTU parameter and setting at 1460. This operation finally worked.
