Thread: Regarding router for BSNL broadband

My first post :-). hoping to get some useful advice.

I am using BSNL broadband with smartax mt882 modem. i want to have a stable wi fi connectivity with a range of 1 floor (1 floor up and 1 floor down).
budget is around 3k(flexible)
Some additional information:
1)a hav to connect a desktop as well as laptops.
2)i hav airtel broadband as well.if its better wrt wifi kindly suggest routers for the same.

instead of a 5 db antenna, can i choose the below model
D-Link DIR-615 Wireless-N 300 Router (Black)
with Dual External 2dBi Gain Reverse SMA Antenna.

i want to have a stable wi fi connectivity with a range of 1 floor (1 floor up and 1 floor down).,
As wifi signals Need "line of sight" ( like a pencil of light from a Torch)
obstructions can reduce signals.You may have to position the wifi router with antenna Parallel to the ground.( near the window if possible )
There is No radiation from Top of the antenna if kept in Vertical position.
Worst case, a radius of activity say 20 to 30 feet can be expected.

seems Ok and has 5 dBi antenna. check again please.
If antenna is detachable can add higher gain antenna if needed.

Thanks essbebe for helping me select a modem.
got it delivered today. was easy to configure to bsnl.
working stable as of now.
can receive enuf coverage in ground floor and middle floor(where it is currently kept).
i have a doubt though:-
I also have airtel dsl connection.can i configure my router for airtel now and keep both bsnl and airtel settings?

Unfortunately, I think this /modem/router can be
SET to one ISP only at a time..
Confirmed from WAN settings page.

restored to factory settings and reconfigured for airtel dsl at ground floor.
height of one floor here is approximately 11 feet. full signal at all rooms of ground floor.
good signal at 1st floor.
only 2-3 bars at 3rd floor. will check if the connection is stable there in all rooms. if it is, then will keep the modem here only.
few cons:
the switch to on/off wifi is not working.
the modem started heating a bit after 1-2 hours. i am worried it might pose problem after few months.

am satisfied as of now.:-) will share if experience any probs
