Thread: Preffered DNS and Alternate DNS

Hi Guys,

I use airtel broadband at my office and BSNL broadband at my home. Everytime i take my laptop to office or home, i need to change the preffered dns and alternate dns settings according to the connection. I want a common DNS setting that should work fine with both BSNL and airtel. When I choose " obtain DNS settings automatically" it is not getting connected. Pls help.

try google dns 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 in
Network properties both in LAN and WLAN.
mention modem/model/make/number used at home.
Same DNS can be entered in Advanced options DNS menu.
Check in laptop:
Start RUn type cmd Ok
New window
Type ipconfig /all
DNS should have changed.
Test again in office.

I changed preffered dns server to 8.8.8.8 and alternate to 8.8.4.4. It works fine at home now with BSNL. Let me try tomorrow at office for airtel and feedback. Thanks for your quick reply.

thanks dude, now i am at office. And the settings works fine here.

218.248.255.194 and 218.248.255.193 works for me but google dns take a long time if u want to test DNS download benchmark
grc.com /files/DNSBench.exe add dns u want to check then run benchmark.
