Since i am new to this type of broadband, can anyone advice me your tips on purchase of modem, type of modem etc?

Also BSNL officer adviced me to take WLL phone with unlimited internet for Rs 250/month instead abovesaid dataone broadband.

i am using P4 desktop computer which is four years old. Also i don't bother about speed.

Hi, Here are a few tips for you:

a) Connection Type/Tariff Plan, etc.: What is main purpose of your BB connection? If you are going to use it for heavy downloads such as movies/torrents, etc. then suggest go with Home 500 plan where night time (2 AM to 8 AM) is free. If you cannot schedule downloads in night time, then opt for UL 900. If you are only using for mails, chats, casual surfing, then Home 250 is good enough.

b) Modem: Normally opt for BSNL modem. But if connection is taking a long time, inquire with BSNL whether you can buy your own modem from the market and then whether you will be able to get the connection quicker (connections are usually delayed because BSNL does not have enough stock of modems). Take their advise for suggested modems.

c) Your 4 yr old P4 is good enough for surfing and downloads. Your PC will always be much faster than internet speed provided that it is well maintained, defraged often, does not have unnecessary s/w running in background, virus free, etc.

j4k

Nice to hear that you have applied for BSNL braodband connection but i would just like to tell you one thing about BSNL and that is they do not have a good customer care service. Problems occurs rarely but when they do you would be stuck with it for some long time.

If you use too much of the data transfer, then you are in safe hands with the BSNL 900 PLan. And better take the BSNL Modem and wait even if it gets late. It doesn'e get much later than 2 Months.

Till then you can use your normal Reliance Card.
