Default Skype on, no other browsing

    Hi folks,

A friend of mine in Kollam, Kerala having a similar modem has a new problem.

His wireless connection to the the modem is on. Skype gets connected, but he is unable to browse. His OS is XP. For the same problem, he had actually reinstalled the OS once and a couple of days later, the problem has surfaced again.

All the relevant lights on the modem are on correctly.

    Hi superprash2003,

    > using all the bandwidth

It is BSNL broadband upto 2MBPS connection. When it works, it handles Skype + other browsing without problems.

Since yesterday it has been holding on without breaks.

settings shouldn't be much different for WA3002G2 & WA3002G4.check that your line mode is G.dmt not ADSL2/2+.

Default WA3002G4 - Type II Router WPA2-PSK setting steps

[I am using Dell 1525- Vista]

    SSID: [Some name]
    BSSID: [ Some value]
    Country/District: India

Enable Wireless Guest Network - Unchecked
    Guest SSID: Guest
    2. Security tab

    Network Authentication: WPA2 -PSK
WPA Pre-Shared Key: [Gave the key value]
    WPA Encryption: AES
    WEP Encryption: Disabled

    Then clicked save/apply button
    3. Management --> Save/Reboot

WPA2 sometimes does not work with AES. First try with TKIP (WPA2-TKIP). If that does not work try WPA-TKIP - that will definitely work.

Under Network Authentication, there are below options
    Open
    Shared
    802.1X
    WPA
    WPA-PSK
    WPA2
    WPA2 -PSK
    Mixed WPA2/WPA
    Mixed WPA2/WPA -PSK
So you mean to say, select "WPA2 -PSK" from above and then under "WPA Encryption" select TKIP

No. TKIP is just an algorithm. It is available under WPA, WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK.

You select WPA-PSK from above options. It will give a further option for algorithms. Select 'TKIP' option and then create the shared key.

Please refer to this guide: Setup of UT-300R2 with Linksys WRT54G

After selecting "WPA2 -PSK" with TKIP encryption, it works.

I wanted to know one more thing:

    My Current setting is:
    1. Wireless -- Basic

    Enable Wireless - Checked
Hide Access Point - Unchecked ==> What is this? Can I check this option?
    SSID: [Some name]
    BSSID: [ Some value]
    Country/District: India

Enable Wireless Guest Network - Unchecked
    Guest SSID: Guest

    2. Security tab

    Network Authentication: WPA2 -PSK
WPA Pre-Shared Key: [Gave the key value]
    WPA Encryption: TKIP
WEP Encryption: Disabled ==> Can I enable this? What will happen if I enable this, which key would I have to enter to connect to internet

    Please clarify

    Default Thanks Ozdesi

    Dear Ozdesi,

After so many months of reading useless articles and hitting my head into walls after read those, I came across this article, and wow I did whatever is said in this mail and it worked. Now i am using a desktop and laptop simultaneously that too without dialing.

by the way, what is this 1394 connection, i did not have this anywhere in network connections so i missed the network bridging part, but luckily all is working well.

(remember I know nothing about computers, except basic, so these are pretty difficult things for me)

now I want to secure the modem. If anyone has easy to explain articles, then please guide me. otherwise, I will try to find, may be it will also take time.

Anyway big thanks again. Keep up the good work of easy and excellent guiding to people like me.

Mind you , this was done on a Desktop with an Ethernet connection to WA3002G4. I am yet to test this with a Wireless Laptop although I have enabled and encrypted WAN. I "think" this should be a multiuser setup.

Here is what I have done.

Go into modem setup from browser (192.168.1.1, admin/admin)

    Click Advanced Setup> WAN Setup
Click "Edit" on First Row showing 0/35 under VPI/VCI column.
    Uner ATM PVC Configuration
    VPI: [0-255]=35
    VCI: [1-65535]=35

Enable VLAN Tagging = do not select
Service Category: = UBR without PCR
    click next
Select "PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE)" and Encapsulation Mode = "LLC/SNAP-Bridging"
    Click Next

    Under PPP Username and Password
    PPP Username: = <Your Dataonne UserName>
    PPP Password: = <Your Dataone Password>
PPPoE Service Name: = Leave this Blank
    Authentication Method: = Auto
Do not select anything else on this page.

    Enable NAT = yes
    Enable Firewall =yes
    Enable IGMP Multicast = yes
    Enable WAN Service = yes
Service Name =pppoe_0_35_1 (or anything else)
    Click next

Now "WAN Setup - Summary" should look like this
    VPI / VCI: 0 / 35
    Connection Type: PPPoE
    Service Name: pppoe_0_35_1
    Service Category: UBR
    IP Address: Automatically Assigned
    Service State: Enabled
    NAT: Enabled
    Firewall: Enabled
    IGMP Multicast: Enabled
    Quality Of Service: Disabled

    Click "Save".
Click "Save and Reboot" on next page

    **Restart your PC and WA3002G4**

    Go to "Network Connections"

Select "Local Area Connection" and "1394 Connection" at the same time (hold down control key)
Right click and select "Bridge Connections".
Let windows Create Network Bridge. After few seconds it will shows status as "Connected".

    Voila!
    hi ozdesi ,
first of all thanks a lot to , write all the details with such a good clarification , really appreciate , actually i was searching that how can i configure my UTstarcom router to keep it always on , on google , i got a link to this site , finally after 8 hours my search ends over hear , but i m happy , finally its done , i have a nokia E61 i handset and now i can access internet on my handset also , but ONLY the last part is remaining , i wiil really appreciate if u help me with this problem also ..Click "Save".
Click "Save and Reboot" on next page

    **Restart your PC and WA3002G4**
till this part its fine after this when i select
    Go to "Network Connections"

    Select "Local Area Connection"
there is no opotion for "1394 Connection" if i ignore that i
Right click and select "Bridge Connections". when i selecting it , it gives me error " To create a network Bridge , you must select at least two lan or high speed internet connection that r not being used by internet connection sharing " lan is not connected but internet is working fine , i guess if the last part is undone is going to be a problem or not , and is there any further securtiy tips to keep my laptop safe because i dont even have antivirus on my system , i m going to purchase it soon , if there is anything else i need to do please tell ,

is there any further securtiy tips to keep my laptop safe because i dont even have antivirus on my system[
    MOST URGENT
Most Urgent . Download a Firewall program and Antivirus program
and if needed an Anti spyware program.
    ALL FREE applications.
Also use ccleaner to keep your computer free of unwanted files.
go to FileHippo.com - Download Free Software and select the programs.
    Para two:
i have a nokia E61 i handset and now i can access internet on my handset also
    Congrats.
Keep it working. Any other setting changes , if needed,
    watch functioning for a week.
If you have a Limited DATA Usage plan, ( other wifi users nearby your
location, can use your connection )
you have to use a security key WPA or WEP to access in WIFI mode.
Please see threads in "Broadband how to ......"
    http://www.chennai.bsnl.co.in/BBS/WA...eless_security
Save the settings for future use.

If a test displays a fail status, click "Rerun Diagnostic Tests" at the bottom of this page to make sure the fail status is consistent. If the test continues to fail, click "Help" and follow the troubleshooting procedures.

    Test PPP server connection: FAIL
    Test authentication with ISP: PASS
Test the assigned IP address: FAIL
