Thread: Night Unlimited timing for BSNL Dataone

This is for all those who are using Home 500 plan. The nighttime unlimited offered under this tarriff falls between 0200 a.m. to 0800 a.m. Is this the right time to offer unlimited downloads, I feel that not giving that offer itself would have been better. This i feel is a really odd time to offer. It should have been at least for 11 to 2 a.m. What do you say? Can BSNL listen to our grievences and make changes?

I disagree.

I feel when it comes to downloading large files, no matter what time it is, as long as you schedule your downloads it is a good time. 7Hrs out of 24Hrs are more than enough.

I am regular user of Home 500 and I reckon it is the best plan around for Rs 500. My monthly download + upload goes to 25GBs. In spite of that I never exceed my free download limit of 2.5GB.

by the way its 6 hrs. And though the timing is pretty odd, the speed offered is gud enuf to d/l 5 gbs a day. My stats go up to 115-120 GB a month

I have often heard of unreasonable billing on various dataplans (and not just from BSNL). I have opted for UL900 plan. The advantage of UL900 plan is that besides unlimited download is that the fixed line telephone monthly charge (Rs.180) is waved off. The downside is that the speed is limited to 256kbps. So it is a trade-off. If you are a heavy downloader UL900 is better suited for you.

I agree with you in this as unlimited plan from bsnl could be the best offer. But i heard that even 500 plan of bsnl will offer your a waiver or Rs. 180 rental charges is that true, i saw their tarrif, but it was clearly mentioned, need to clarify though.

hmm ya ofcourse the timings are wrong and stupid...they just want to save there precious bandwith...however if u get 2mbps on that package you can still d\l a decent amount..however all dont know scheduling...

You are right on this one. Like i always asked my brother to start downloading from 2 am as i get to sleep around 11 pm and he studies all night. I think BSNL should change the night unlimited plan from present to 11 pm to 5 or 6 in the morning.

Let me present you a software (freeware), intended to be used by DataOne broadband users in india, who have the night free (unlimited plan) of internet connection, eg Home 500, Home 500 C, Home 500 Combo plus etc.
This software can in addition, update dynamic DNS on every connection change of Dataone BSNL broadband internet.

Why use this software
1. More flexibility over the connection...
2. DataOne averages the data usage over the sessionand then substracts 6 hours (2AM to 8AM) worth of the download. So for users of free night plan from 2AM to 8AM, they still have to switch off and switch on their modem at 2AM if they want to get really night free from dataone..
In the western countries, probably they would have called it cheating and filed a class-action suit against BSNL, because, even if they claim 2AM to 8AM (Night unlimited free), it is not so!!

Example:
If you connect at 10 PM and disconnect at 6 AM and download 400 MB data,
downloading only during 2AM to 6AM,
still the average is 50 MB/hour.
So free usage is 50*4=200 MB and the rest (200 MB) is paid download!!!

This software allows you to connect and disconnect automatically at specified times, so that you dont have to wake up at 2AM!! ;-)
The schedule this software uses is:

* Connect at program startup ( default 3 tries )
(put it in windows startup to connect with windows startup)
* Disconnect at 1:58 AM
* Connect at 2:00 AM
* Disconnect at 7:58 AM
* Connect at 8:00 AM
* Manual connection-disconnection supported!

3. Support for automatic Dynamic DNS updating along with each connection!!

How the hell are you able to download 5 GBs a day? I can manage 2.5 at the most. The maximum speed I get is about 230 kbps, and that doesn't stay all the time. Today I was downloading from Rapidshare, and three times, the 100 MB file had downloaded about half, and then the connection broke for some reason...

How is it possible. I am also in the same plan. But I am able to download only 20 to 25 gb per month. Pl let me know the Preferred DNS server code which u use.

dont count the rapidshare download speed, as it is throttled for non-premium users. to test your download speeds, use sites like speedtest.net
