Default BSNL Free Night Plan has Stopped

Apparently BSNL has stopped the free night plan package! I don't know whether this is only for Punjab users or for all BSNL broadband users! The BSNL free night plan was a good plan and it was one of the reasons why I got a BSNL connection....think its time to change service providers maybe!

Can anyone confirm this information, as I have not heard anything official from BSNL.

I have the BSNL night unlimited plan here in kolkata. But unfortunately my connection has been out of order for more than 20 days.

However before this 20 days night unlimited plan was active. I have checked the bills. All downloads/uploads between 2 AM - 8 AM were not counted.

Thinking to drop the services of BSNL as they do not respond to faults. More than 20 days yet no one bothers to repair the line.

That is a real shame. BSNL is a government company and in 2014 after all the taxes we all pay and the amount of money government has the state run bsnl broadband still works like they are British ruling over India

The main problem is that BSNL employees know that is it virtually impossible for them to loose their job even if they do not do any work atall. They just sit there and pocket their salary every month. What a shame.

They did stopped free night usage. But that is not all ... they informed me on 7th July that they stopped free night usage from 1st July. Great !! Now who will pay for that 7 GB I have already downloaded till now at night?? God knows!!

Not only I am going to Dump BSNL ... I am also planning to complain to all the authorities and even file a case against them. Can any member suggest me what to do ... any feedback and suggestion will be helpful

Bsnl has provided a new definetion to the word "incompetet" and this is not the first time.. they dont just provide a new definetion but also manage to beat their previous record.

I am sure you should be able to file a case at your local consumer court and wont even need a lawyer for that. Total fees Rs110 thats it.

Recieved an email from bsnl confirming withdrawl of night unlimited

    Dear Customer,

Free Night Usage of your BB plan has been withdrawn from 01.07.2014. For more information kindly visit www.calcuttatelephones.com or your nearest CSC.

    With Regards,
    Calcutta Telephones
This company BSNL needs a teaching. They are saying that they are withdrawing the scheme as night unlimited users use too much paying little. By the way they should look at other countries offering at least 10x speed without any FUP at the same price.

I want to ask where the tax payer's money goes ? Before closing such schemes they should better investigate about money loitering by their officials. That will prevent a lot of money wastage.
They government needs to be blamed too. In this 21st century where Internet is a major economic driving force, they are running backwards and the sole reason for that is they are power and money hungry. Shame.

@a.ganguly BTW, you cannot file a case against them. This is because when taking a new connection we signed a clause that "BSNL deserves the right to change/withdraw any plans without informing the customer" .They have their backs covered. I do not know if even if complaining to the consumer court would help. The government is on their side.

Hopefully they will revert this decision some how. We all need to raise a voice against this.

Yes they can change the plans and prices but telling a customer late in the month that their usage will be billed differently is a big no no. I think atleast this could be contested in court. What do you think?

Been using BSNL Home 500 (Night UL) for 4 years now. Didn't even know they stopped the plan starting 1st July until yesterday. Not even a message, email, phone call or info from the local telephone exchange. Have used a total of around 18GB in the last 7 days without knowing. Who the hell is gonna pay the bill now? Any suggestions? The only good thing about BSNL connection was the Night UL plan and now with that gone, looks like BSNL is going to loose a fat chunk of its loyal users. Good Going!

I was under the impression that "some" customers were not informed but by the looks of it they didint bother to tell any one about the change. The bills could run into thousands if not lakhs of rupees for heavy downloaders.

I hope BSNL resolves this right now and give customer a month's notice at the very least so every one is in the know and can switch to plans that are unlimited in nature.

Called the BSNL Broadband customer care guys and filed my grievance orally. The CC executive assured me that my grievance was absolutely justified and that BSNL did NOT give prior notice before discontinuing the NU plan for Home users. He also mentioned that one day suddenly they received instructions to stop the NU plan. The idea was to inform all local exchanges who would in turn inform the customers locally by whatever means they see fit. HUH! Really? They actually believed their own employees to convey the message without wasting a moment? Are they that naive? He advised me to file a formal complaint at the local telephone exchange. I asked them if the BSNL board were even considering the grievance of the people who without knowing have already used a lot during the NU period in the last 7-8 days. He said he had no information!

Now what is the course of action? They DO reserve the right to change any plan without informing the customer BUT billing customers who were not informed beforehand and were under the impression that NU was still free, is that lawful or unlawful? The best they could hae done was discontinue the entire broadband service who were under the NU plan. That would have raised concern among the customers as to why their broadband was NOT working and inquiring from the local exchange would have come to know about the change in the plan. That would hae given the customers an opportunity to apply for other plans according to their needs. But who cares about the customers. Right BSNL?

I think it would be illegal for BSNL to bill customers for the days that have passed in the current billing month. I feel this could be challenged in court with full force. Some lazy bsnl babu sitting in a filthy room full of files thinks that they can run over people like that is "wrong" He/she doesnt have a clue what the new generation is like and to what extent they would go to fight for what is right.

    Hi,

I am in Mysore!just 3 days back there was an ad in local English paper by BSNL announcing the stoppage of the Free night usage! fortunately the charge of 15p/mb is over and above the free usage.effective from 12am on 1-7-2014.So IT IS OFFICIAL.But abruptly discontinuing the free night usage amounts to "rubbing the subscribers on the wrong side.yet is true that "THE KNOWN DEVIL IS BETTER THAN THE UNKNOWN ANGEL(I mean the non transparency of private BB providers.)

Take unlimited plan. Why are you talking as if there is not even a single unlimited plan in BSNL broadband?.

Yes there are plenty of unlimited plans that can be used but we are all unhappy about BSNL's abrupt decision to end night unlimited without intimation to the customers.

No doubt in it. My insider at BSNL says it is Modi goverments direction to do away with night unlimited thing to force users to opt for plans that are unlimited and cost a lot more. Ive been told this is in prepration for privatising BSNL and fetching a better price for the Government. Profitability will increase and so will revenue per customer with this move but this could have been better planned and executed to save people the shok they are in right now.

    @Just4Kix

Most people who use BSNL in rural areas do not have any other provider that they can turn to. BSNL will loose customer in urban areas due to this move especially youngsters who use torrents.

If it is any consolation, Delhi is in the same boat too. I cannot get a decent broadband connection here in Delhi. I think you will have to make do with one of the slower speed unlimited connections if they have one.

It is better in Andhra because of Beam and ACT broadband, they give stiff competition to BSNL !

If some forum member is able to formulate a petition, online or otherwise, I will be glad to submit the same to BSNL, along with others.
I read in some website that free Unlimited night plan is being removed in Karnataka. I have an unlimited plan, so didn't much worry about it.
All the customers who are informed late or not informed can contact the concerned Commercial Officer and submit an application that they are not willing to pay for the huge downloads they did during the night. Or that they would go to Consumer Court. If the authorities don't budge, there will be Telephone Adalats conducted each month where their grievances will be heard. The least they will do is that it will be postponed by one month, after giving due notice for the consumer to change the plan to an unlimited one.
I personally know of such an instance where a son of a doctor downloaded a huge amount of data (he did not even know what plan it was !) and when the bill for a few thousand rupees was presented to the doctor. the doctor approached the office and they changed the plan to an unlimited one retrospectively and pardoned the whole bill. (Of course the doctor was a noted person in the community !)

I am happy to formulate a petition for every one to sign. I will have it ready by tomorrow afternoon. Let me know what all you guys want included in it. We can have it posted online for everyone's digital signature and then submit it and then hope for a positive impact.

    @Mihirmohanty,

MTNL has cheap plans here but decent speed ones do not come cheap and MTNL is not reliable either.

I myself got a new connection from a local cable operator for Rs1599 per month and it is 1.5mbps pure unlimited with no FUP. Not very cheap but speed is excellent. BSNL babus need to learn a lesson or two one of these days. They are making broadband a luxury when it is not a luxury and is used and needed by people from all walks of life.

Look at this 8Mbps plan with no FUP. It works out at Rs1400 Indian per month.

Hello Everybody. I am back to the forum after a long time.
I wholeheartedly support the idea of a mass petition. We should try so that maximum number of people signs it.

If BSNL over charges anybody for the period before their intimation, it will be a strong case for Consumer Courts. Keep your records friends.

Graf, I agree with him , according to trai guideline , consumer should be informed before hand and only with their consent the plan can be changed .
consumer has right to terminate the plan or to change the plan according to their need , especially when it affects the customers adversely .
if bsnl fails to resolve this , one can move to national consumer forum , or to Telecom Disputes Settlement Appellate Tribunal .

BSNL HAS STARTED THEIR END OF THEIR EXISTENCE as a successful broadband service provider.

They have been misbehaving with their customers a lot in the recent times...and now they have pushed their limits.

They were doing plenty of things like, changes in plan and tariff without informing customers and suddenly shocking the customer in their bills.
Now, THE DOOMS DAY has come for BSNL and has been invited by BSNL itself.

Remember INDIAN POSTAL SERVICE ? They invited their DOOMS DAY
INDIAN POSTAL SERVICE WAS KILLED BY THEIR OWN EMPLOYEES & BAD MANAGEMENT. IDIOTIC PLANNING.
Think, how successful they would have been. Their real expenditures would be Employee salaries & Vehicle fuel charges...
Both are in the hands of government. They ONLY needed LOYAL EMPLOYEES.
They failed in that and ell in hell. I still hear successfully running government postal services in other countries.

Anyway, BSNL have suddenly cancelled all free night unlimited plans, Unlimited night usage ; which was the sole reason i know plenty of customers where sticking with BSNL.
They have done this with out informing customers. Not just me , plenty are complaining the same in the internet.

They have done several things in the past like this, without informing customers....
    For example...
reducing senior citizen discounts on bills
    reducing discounts for annual payments...
providing worst service...in the name of Server faults. Rainfall. etc
Most lethargic employees........who are paid for simply sitting & chatting in office

BSNL does such irritating things without informing customers....
Their service is also worst comparing to any private ISP
They have the worst performing employees.

Only thing which kept me from cancelling BSNL connection was the free night unlimited.

My connection was under Home 500 Combo. So after all these, it is proven that, BSNL is ready to be getting kicked off by several customers....

I REALLY WISH BY HEART THAT BSNL WOULD GET DESTROYED ITSELF LIKE THE INDIAN POSTAL SERVICE.

My wishes to BSNL for that.
Let the first kick will be from me.
As always my luck ditched me ont his & i paid my annual payment in june without knowing, they would bring such a pathetic change..

Does anybody know, what is the procedure to cancel a annual payment plan
    Location : Chennai
    Plan : Home 500 COMBO
Friends, kindly give ur views on this ....especially from Chennai.

    Anyway, my bottom line.......

REALLY, I HATE THIS F****** BSNL. Truly. Anybody who understand my frustration would understand this.

    FRIENDS,

Also kindly share which ISP is a better alternative for BSNL now in CHENNAI for broadband.

ACT ( Beam ) or Tikona....
I read a lot of bad reviews about both.....

Any clues friends, for CHENNAI ( Chrompet )?

@thiagu , we can think about alternative later , but first we should think about how to cope with bill bsnl is going to send to all of us ?
how ? because it will go in thousands of rupees .

    to everyone ,
these basic consumer rights are violated by bsnl ,
    The Right to be Informed
    The Right to Choose
    The Right to be Heard
    The Right to Redress
The Right to Satisfaction of Basic Needs .
along with that trai has stated that consumers should be informed before change in plan .
we can form a group and can file a case at national consumer forum . in case they charge us .
IS anyone up for such stands ?
can anyone tell me when was this planned was actually passed by bsnl ?

    a.ganguly ,
same here , buddy i have downloaded 40GB by now , and i came to know about this today ,
i am thinking to file a complain at trai, consumer form ,
as bsnl is violating the rules raid by both trait and consumer protection act .
i do not know how many of would join in mass petition .
but more the people stronger will be the case . ping back to me if you are looking to file a case against bsnl regarding this

qwerty , but trai , says
consumer should be informed before major plan change ,
and according to consumer protection act , a consumer has right to know and right to choose ,
government ? well you can take the matter to supreme court .
the consumer form has given verdicts again department of electricity and railways and also against RTI .
so it depends on the case .

They have removed this option for new broadband plans. The customers already subscribed to those plans will not be affected. It will work as usual. But now... Don't change the broadband plan because you will not be able to get back the same plan which doesn't exist in the new ones.

For example ... My plan 500-C ( night unlimited) was already discontinued from past two years for new customers. But I am using it as the same. ... So the old customers will not be affected. BSNL has withdrawn a lots of its BB plans and has introduced new plans. But the old customers with withdrawn plans can use the same plan as before... Unless the users change the mind to take a new BB plan. ... The users can only opt for the plan which exists in the new list of the plans (remember). Our 500 plan was already deleted from the new plans list. It means someone cannot select that plan but the old customers can use the same as before...!

Is this 100% accurate info? I was in the process of writing a petition for this issue.

BSNL will expect you to pay the bill, but there is a valid and justified reason to why you shouldn't, and anyone can easily see that. I mean if you stop a service before informing the user, the user is continue to use the service as normal. Clearly the companies fault, which they wont probably own up to.

You missed this post : http://www.indiabroadband.net/bsnl-b...tml#post383588

Those people who already have this plan may be able to retain them.

I think BSNL has stopped night unlimited for ALL users. They sent an email

    Dear Customer,

Free Night Usage of your BB plan has been withdrawn from 01.07.2014. For more information kindly visit www.calcuttatelephones.com or your nearest CSC.

    With Regards,
    Calcutta Telephones
BTW, I was having the plan for the last 5 years.

    to everyone
    @smoothvibes ,
man create the petition , you never know when you might need it .
i am just back from local exchange ,
and this is what the sdo has said to me .
your plan was bb combo fn 600 ,
which automatically has been chanced to ct 630 plan
and your due amount is 5500 approx rupee for 40 GB of data .

ever my new bill which was generated showed ct630 on the new bill , which is to be paid .
and even sdo of the exchange did not have any idea about my query and problem ,
he actually had to go through consumer database and plan migration details to confirm this to me .

MY fn 600 HAS automatically been change to ct630. Confirmed today at bsnl exchange by visiting sdo

    @krn4u
who so ever says that they are still using the plans kindly show the bill or attach the bill so that other may use that bill as proof that not all consumer are affected and bsnl is targeting individual one by one .

bsnl has not yet repaired my line , i face noise issue and frequent disconnection , and all the time they report that my line is ok , no line man has visited my home , visited bsnl office 50 time by now to get it repaired , they even made me by a new modem ! that's how bsnl work , no one will take the responsibility . i have complained regarding this to everyone authority i can imagine , including pgportal ,
but single person cannot do much . thinking of filing a petition at consumer forum and trai for their behavior and wrong details .

Be prepared for surprise bill !

I am not a lawyer It is more like an application/request to be submitted to higher officials at BSNL and some one in the ministry to get them to think again thats all. Lots of people asking the same thing usually happens in a democracy.

I think we should all get together and do something about this. We don't live in Hitlers Germany. This is India and unjustice will not be tolerated.

as far as i know annual payment is a contract and both of you are bound to keep ,
so they cannot change the plan for annual users , and you cannot terminate the annual plan .

check your local exchange or head office , meet with account officer for more details .

this is india and getting justice in india is like getting the pass for heavens .
indian judicial system sucks ! i have first hand experience with at-least a few cases .
if well all group together and file complain at consumer forum , trai, and minister of telecom , you can guess that there will be atleast 2-4 years delay in getting justice .

We really need an official word on this. I agree that annual contracts cannot be terminated just like that. It would be breach of trust case and could be easily put up in a court.

Yes it should not be terminated for long term contracts but what about those who pay month by month?
