    Default Forwarding yips

I can surf alright with my modem-router-computer setup but can't seem to open up ports if required.

    Here's my current setup:

    Modem:
    - BSNL DNA-A201. The interface seems pretty similar to the one described for the UT-300R2U. I have a NAT section and a DMZ section.
    - This is in PPoE mode with the ISP username and password specified.
    - DHCP is enabled and the following IPs are specified as start and end: 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.10.
    - I've tried plugging 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.3 in my DMZ section on separate occasions.
    - I've clicked on the NAT section and have opened port XXXXX for 192.168.1.3 which is the IP of the only laptop that's currently connected to the router (next secion). No luck there either.

How do I figure out the external IP of my router if I wish to specify that IP in the DMZ section?

    Router:
    - Linksys WRH54G
    - This is in auto-DHCP mode (DHCP server enabled)
    - Internal IP is set to 192.168.1.100 and I can open router setup by typing that IP in my browser (ditto for the modem)
    - I can't open any ports on my router now (Applications and Gaming->Single Port Forwarding). I get a message that says I shouldn't be typing LAN IPs in there. I guess the forwarding needs to happen at the modem end now ... or maybe I'm just talking rubbish.

I'm sure I'm missing something silly. Suggestions please?

    ETA:
For what it's worth, I have managed to open appropriate ports with both the following configurations:
    1 - BSNL modem->computer
2 - Beam cable plugged directly into Linksys router->computer

Distressed to note your One line dismissal of this thread, and 186 posts with about 88,000 hits.
Usually new members don't have the patience to read all the posts
and open a new thread on the same subject.
and you have selected the wrong thread for your need.

Please mention your Sterlite Modem model number
and your problem. Check Beetel450TCI link below.

Procedure to connect an ADSL Modem with a standalone wifi router is pretty standard procedure now.
the zip file in very first post is corrupt.
Appears you have not read the posts. after Post No 1.

The zip is indeed corrupt and has been removed. Try the RAR file. In any case the guide was written specifically for the combination mentioned.

The setup principles are more or less the same for all modems and routers - the screens are slightly different. You can use the guide as a reference if it does not match the equipment that you have.

Please find the guide here in forum text format (not attachment).

    Hi,
This is my first post. I recently opted for BSNL broadband. they asked me to get the modem and said if required get a wirless one. As i have very little knowledge in these matters i just brought the Linksys E4200. but the technican have told me that this is only a router and u need to buy a seperate modem. I searced for a seperate modem but all the modem's come with default routers. I searced on net and found Draytek Vigor120 Modem which was suitale with E4200. i have just ordered this online. Have anyone of you have any experiecne with this combo? Can you please share how to go about this connection.

    Kindly help.
    Regards
    Akash
