thanks
thanks
thanks a million brother..
a word of advice to other wrt54g users...the admin section of its console has a "save settings" functionality - essentially backs up your configuration. so once you have it running, create a backup file. next tile your wrt resets itself (thanks to electricity cycling owing to powercuts), you just need to restore it with this file. will save u tons of efforts..
cheers jus4kix!
pls send how to take network connection profile and edit TCP/IP settings
go to control panel->network connection->right click on LOCAL AREA CONNECTION(default) and click on properties.. there you will find tcp/ip settings
I was already using my wired connection and my modem setup was already done, (did not use my wireless router as I was not having any device to use it), so I just had to change the ip address of router and in internet setup, I select "Automatic Configuration - DHCP" and it worked fine!
But, thanks a lot for the guide! I helped me understand the problem of same ip address at the first place!
I've been struggling to connect my new DLink wireless router with my BSNL adsl modem. Thanks for the document. Hope this works for me.

Thanks for the Comprehensive doc. Easy to use and understand.
Thank you, I have downloaded the attachment. I however have a MT882 modem/router
I understand your situation. Unfortunately I do not have each and every router to test and write a guide for. However, if you understand the concepts behind the configuration and using the guide supplied by your own modem, it would be possible to configure your modem correctly. It will not be easy (especially to non-technical people) but once the fundamentals are understood, it will be easier to understand.
HTH.

Dear just4kix,
I am a new member to this forum. Today I downloaded your 2 guides for setting
up modem ,with step-by-stem instructions. It found it very useful to understand
the various settings in modem.
Thanks for concise and clear guides so thoughtfully prepared by you.
by the way my modem is ZTE ZXDSL 831AII (type I modem supplied by BSNL,Surat ). I am able to understand various configurations there .
I have only one problem . This modem automatically assigns DNS/DHCP .
Instead of BSNL DNS servers I would like to use openDNS servers but there is no place in modem to change it.
In case ,you are familiar with this modem I shall be highly grateful , for your guidance.
Please continue with your excellent tips.

Hi, I am not familiar with this modem. But you may find help here: BSNL BROADBAND MAIN MENU.
Just4kix,
You have made many splendid efforts to ensure the ease and confusion free setup of many BSNL Broadband users. The work that BSNL should be doing is being done by you...the damn "customer-service" buggers should be paying you!!!
I have a question... I set up my WiFi network as described by you with all sorts of security baffles and all. Great and it all works perfectly! Except for a strange problem...
1) MSN messenger refuses to sign in and Hotmail refuses to open
2) Yahoo messenger signs in, but Yahoo mail refuses to open.
Other than that every other website works just swell!! Queer, eh? Any solutions?
I have the UT300R2U modem with a Surecom 9610SX-g 54M wireless access point/router. Please help. Maybe a good challenge for you...Am sure the BSNL guys will already be flummoxed if I tell them I've got a "wireless router networking my connection".
Cheerio...and mucho thanxo!
S
Thanks for the kind words. For your problems, try the following:
a) Setup UT300R2U in PPPoE mode.
b) For DNS settings in UT300R2U, instead of using "automatic" enter the openDNS server values (forgot the IP address; check them in this forum using forum search)
c) Setup your Surecom wireless in bridge mode.
Post your results.
opendns servers 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
If you are not logged in, the forum would not allow you to download the file (attachments) correctly. This feature seems to be common with most of the forums. The only problem is it does not complain anything while downloading the file, but the file you download is not complete indeed.
@just4kix - Thanks for this article and also for the TWO articles on the Wireless security. We look forward for more wireless security measures covering the latest threats if any known to you..
Best wishes,

Thanks for the excellent info
Friend,
You are doing a great service. thanks for that.
I want to move to BSNL broadband wireless. My doubt is if I switch off the MOdem (ie Pwer to it ) after my work will it be possible to others to connect to my connection. Of course I will do al that you have suggested. But on top of it if I swithc off will it be more safe or even we switch off the modem others will be able to access my modem.
Thanks
Thanks a lot dude...
