Please check this post : http://www.indiabroadband.net/modems...tml#post384481

That is the best I can think of as it has everything you would ever want a modem to do for you. Modems/routers are meant to be kept running for days and weeks together. I do not ever turn my router off unless I am going away for a few days. Just keep it clean and it would last for ever.

I have this modem, it is good, but I have seen that if there is no activity for a long time it tends to stop the internet and we have to restart the modem.
Also, if there is a power failure it tends to take a long time to connect.
Other than these it is a good router with a good range for wifi.
Please read about Asus or D-Link models in other forums before coming to a decision.
    Regards,
    Shrinivas

Actiually I have a bsnl modem on rental. But 2 months ago my dsl link became unstable. Local exchange has replaced my modem with a old one. But my problem has not solved. After that they have checked my line and told me it is ok. After that they have changed my network from P2 to P3 at their side. But still problem not solved. After that they have changed my splitter with a new one. But problem still persists. After that they have changed my modem again.

Now problem is that sometimes it is running more than 12 hrs with no problem some times 1 hr after that dsl link started blinking.
At that time I have checked my snr margin fluctuates. But from local DP box they have provided me 5 pair cable with no joints.

Now my local exchange is telling that all modem they have are old and repaired and those are not reliable. So they are giving the advise to buy a modem from local market, as they do not have a good one.

@pshrinivasan as you said you are using this modem, how long you have run this modem at a stretch without any problem?

Also you have mentioned that "if there is a power failure it tends to take a long time to connect" how long it will take?

Although I dont have the modem I posted that link to and I don't have an adsl connection any more but when I did I never turned my modem off and that is how every one I know uses their modem. These things are made to work 24/7. I have a cable connection now and I don't think I have turned off the router in the last one month. Even the MTS wifi modem I have is left plugged into a charger and its been there for months.

When power fails your modem will reboot and loose the connection and have to redial it again and it would take a min or so may be two at times. Shrinivas would be in a better position to tell you what his experience has been with this particular model as he uses it.
