    Default Bsnl Broadband DNS Server

Like many broadband service providers BSNL also have their own DNS server. DNS server can be of great importance as it can help browsing be more faster and efficient. Many people get confused as to which DNS server to choose, so below I have provided a list of DNS servers which people can choose from, which includes Google DNS server as well as BSNL DNS server.

    Google DNS Server

    Preferred DNS server 8.8.8.8
    Alternate DNS server 8.8.4.4

    BSNL DNS Server

    Preferred DNS server 208.67.222.222
    Alternate DNS server 208.67.220.220

    Preferred DNS server 218.248.240.208
    Alternate DNS server 218.248.240.135

    Preferred DNS server 218.248.241.2
    Alternate DNS server 218.248.240.209

    Preferred DNS server 218.248.255.212
    Alternate DNS server 218.248.241.2

In order to know which server works best for you, you should conduct a ping test, the server which gives the less pings is the best one.

Google DNS works the best all over the world and second best is open DNS. I get a 8ms latency for Google DNS servers.

BTW, servers 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 are not BSNL but OpenDNS !

In my modem, the DNS mentioned are 218.248.245.3 and 218.248.255.139

I guess they differ from region to region !

I have noticed that Google DNS gives the best results in India. BSNL has a lot of locations but they do not use the technology that enabled the same IP to hit the nearest server depending upon the location of the user unlike Google. If you ping Google server 8.8.8.8 you would most likely get better latency then the BSNL's dns and because Google DNS is so widely used it has a lot of data already cached at edge locations and fetching the destination IP from name servers becomes quicker.

In my system Google server 8.8.8.8 average ping time is around 75 ms,
    BSNL 218.248.255.139 around 25 ms,
    OpenDNS 208.67.222.222 around 256 ms.

Yet all these are only of statistical significance, we hardly notice much difference in our browsing speeds.
Perhaps playing games online makes a difference !
