Depends upon the make, year, type, etc., isn't it? A new BSNL modem (Type 1) is sold by BSNL for Rs. 1200/- which I believe is on the costly side. Consider the new price as Rs. 900 and apply depreciation of 30% for year 1, and 20% for every later years.

I really doubt that we will be even getting 50% of the price that we paid because of its make, i guess they are made in China and they are able to be connected only with bsnl connections and hence the demand will be less and also most of them will prefer new modem to the old one.

Guys, I don't understand this "Made in China" phobia. Note that now-a-days 90% of the stuff is made in China. All my ADSL (UT-StarCom) and Wireless routers (Linksys and Airlink 101) are made in China; my HP Photosmart c6280 All-in-one is made in China; most of the electronics stuff that I purchased in the recent times is made in China. I could go on.

China is the global manufacturing hub and although there may be some shoddy stuff coming out of China, that does not mean "Made in China = Rubbish". Whether we like it or not, China is here to stay. We could keep our attitude "ostrich" like and loose out; or learn from China, adjust to it and better them.

You are right that not all products made out of china are of inferior quality. I just want to stress out the fact that since that tag is there with that modem, people (as you said) might hesitate to buy it for higher prices. Even most of the nokia phones we use here in india are made at China and they all function superbly well too, hence chinese products are good, except for here and there products which are bad. But they are damn cheap too, you know.
