Default DSL W200-SY Syrma wireless Modem configuration

BSNL has provided fixed IP and DNS values for my modem for both computer and wifi use. why? The modem is password protected( admin/admin not working).
Is this set up good or should I revert back to your earlier guide " PPPOe" always On by resetting the modem?

Thanks! Just wanted to know whether this set up by BSNL is safe.

I use a static IP myself. It is absolutely fine. Just make sure you have a firewall enabled and periodically scan for viruses. You are at no more risk than you would be if you had a dynamic IP unless ISIS is trying desperately to break into your system to find out FBI secrets I doubt that is the case

Majority of offices use static IP and I use one too and there is no reason to worry as long as you are not leaving your system running without any security.
