Default Help on configuring UTStarcom WA3002-g4

    Hello,

I had a Type 3 modem from Huawei. As I wanted to get WiFi, after having bought my laptop.

I could get one "UTStarcom WA3002-g4" modem.

I tried doing what has been told in the manual provided with the modem but in vain.

can you kindly provide me the configuration steps ? Both DSL and Wifi
Is there something additional to be done ??

(I got the modem bought thru my brother in law from a diff. city. Could that be a problem ?)

    Regards,
    Fifa

Hey Thank you very much. I shall try these steps and get back to you.

Is that "10 digit HEX code as the wep key" enough to restrict unauthorized access ?

Meanwhile, I have another clarification. Now that I have 2 modems, would it be possible for me to have both of them in operation ?

WPA is better than WEP but that does not mean WEP is bad. Have a look at this article:

    WEP vs. WPA

And I have a small section on how to setup WPA security in this guide:

"Now that I have 2 modems, would it be possible for me to have both of them operating ?"

Can I try it ? Would it pose any problem if both of them are kept switched on ?

    Default Configuring the WA3004 G4

    hey,
I believe that every one might have got the CD along with the package ,
There are few manuals and Trouble shoooting PDFs available that are ofgreat help and are very informative too , they aalso provide the information about configuring the modem in different mode like Brigded, PPPoE,PPPoA and so on.

connecting two modems at a time :

I tink connecting two modems to a single dsl line wont work , and i could not understand the requirement too , what is the purpose , if u could specify your requirement

    Default PPPoE vs Bridge Mode

you can connect to the network in two ways
    1. Bridged mode : it is similar like a connection between two computers but in case of internet t involves you exclusively dialing , authenticating, obtaining a dynamic IP address and establishing a connection , hence until unless u dont dial u dont get connected.

    2. Router mode/ PPPoe mode : in this mode u configure the modem by saving the username and password inthe memory of the modem so that when ever u switch on your modem , it does the part of dialing , authenticating and establishing a connection .

for users having multiple systems connected to the modem its always preferable to connect through the router mode ,in this way you can fully utilize all the ports by connecting multiple peripherls and also equipment like VOIP .

    Purpose -

I have a laptop and a PC, each used in diff floors in our home.

I can manage with Wifi but I will have to switch on/off the modem for which i will have to keep going up and down.

Now that I had 2 modems, wanted to know if it could be used in this config.
(As mentioned in this thread, if we use the router config, would it be possible)

No need to keep both of them ON !
Use "Dialup" or "Always On " mode.

1.You can use either of them one at a time independently.

    2.Bring a RJ11 cable from Location 1 to Location 2.
( instead of the RJ45 you are using now )
( If Phone Junction already available Use it !)

    3.Location 1 : Bsnl Phone Junction. ==>> Rj11 to type III modem => desktop
    4.Location 2: Extn Phone line Rj11==>> WA3002-g4-
===>> to laptop either in LAN mode or WIFI mode.
( need addition Adsl Splitter if phone is also used in Location 2 )

5.You can use your laptop at either location (* conditions apply )

6.REF:1 for type III modem. (mention make and model number )
    BSNL BROADBAND MAIN MENU
    REF 2 : for WA3002-g4
Chennai Telephones- Changing password in DataOne Pre-configured modem

    7. Worst case scenerio:
Disconnect RJ11 from one modem !

Default Help on configuring UTStarcom WA3002-g4

Thank You very much for the reply.

I already have the phone line running to both the rooms and have connected my modems.

As you mentioned, the current problem is that they both are functional but only being mutually exclusive. (Only one modem would serve).

Can I have both of them operational at the same time ?

    YES.
I can manage with Wifi but I will have to switch on/off the modem for which i will have to keep going up and down.
    not needed now.

1.''WIFI modem/router always on in say fourth floor
.2......Take a RJ45 cable from here to ground floor ............( max distance possible approx 100 feet or ...............100 meters Don't remember )
3...............Rj45 cable to be connected to desktop ..................LANport.

    4. If WIF router switched off , use the other modem Type III ( mention model and make )
as usual in ground floor for the desktop.

    @jayanth100

Start RUN type cmd type ipconfig /all
    Check the default Gateway.
Then in IE type that address. admin admin
If modem/router page does not open.
    see this link.
The little I know about Dataone Broadband Services offered by BSNL
Take screen shots or copy the values.
If you can follow the instructions, and enter all
    values for PPP/PPPoE' AlwaysOn" connection,

RESET the modem to factory defaults.
If the swith or access point is not seen
in rear of unit, see bottom of the unit for a small
    round hole.

    @abhayk
using eth why will i not be able to connect when using pppoe mode???? a type iv router has 4 eth slots too!!
Presume eth means ethernet and eth slots are LAN1,2,3, & 4.
pppoe mode means you use a "DIALER".

See POST No. 13 for detailed explanation.

    Para two:

How do you connect to the Internet ?
(A)As soon as you switch on the system
and modem/router, do you get connected ?
(In wan page PPP/PPPoE:your userId and PW stored)
    Or
    (B)You get a "Dialer" screen
    where you enter
your UserId and PW and get connected ?
( In the modem "Bridged" is selected )

Para two: How many computers you want to use ?
( you can connect four now )
Any in WIFI method? say a laptop ?

REFERENCE: for those who did not get a CD.
