    Default While Ping, Replies are unstable (Modem: Netgear DG632 Ping: 61.0.0.5)

    Hello Frens,
    I am using BSNL broadband on Netgear DG632 ADSL modem.
    I am getting unstable replies on pinging BSNL`s 61.0.0.5 IP!.
    I have to REBOOT my modem once in a day for better connection.

    So where the fault lies:
    1) Line: The landline is checked by line man many times but NO PROBLEM FOUND.
    2) Fax machine: I had bought a new Fax machine i.e. HP Officejet 4355 All-in-one.Whenever i connect telephone jack to FAX through ADSL filter, I received Request timeout in pinging any IP. So, It is useless.
    3) Modem: I m not satisfied with Netgear DG632 ADSL modem, As i had repaired it once.
    4) Ping 192.168.0.1: While pinging modem IP, It too shows unstable replies.
    Following is the link attachment, Please check the PIC.

    5) Calls from Landline: While calling or receiving from landline, The voice appears to be very DIM (Not clear as we hear from cellphone).So, where the problem lies.

    I know the problem is complicated but you people can help!!!
    Hope to receive POSITIVE response from my technical frens.
    Thanks!!

    Why use sancharnet's DNS service? Go for OpenDNS.

    The ip address mentioned by u 61.0.0.5 is sancharnet's DNS servers. I was speaking of OpenDNS service. Please enter 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 in your DNS server settings.

    Changing DNS servers may increase your browsing experience. It doesnt affect downloading speed

    Hi Cool!,
    Nice 2 see ur response.Buddy i m getting 272+ replies from 208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222. While pinging 61.0.0.5, I received 15+ replies. As i m from North india, We use to ping 61.0.0.5 IP. But the strange thing is that, the replies are unstable. U can notice delays in reply in the below pic.
    Please follow the link:

    Please note the delays in TIME.
    Hope you can understand my problem.

    The difference in the ping timings is because sancharnet's server is in India. But the OpenDNS servers are spread throughout US and Europe. Its ok to use 61.0.0.5, but they are not very reliable. Means they tend to fail under load constraints. But the opendns, although in US and Europe, it never fails. Also your browsing is safe and secure with OpenDNS.

    Personally i prefer running on my own DNS server. Means my pc acts as its own DNS server. Hence the need for sancharnet and open dns service is eliminated.

    I agree with u regarding OpenDns servers. But what about my own modem IP i.e. 192.168.0.1, I am receving delays in time in my modem IP also.Please check the pic. So where can be the problem? IS IT POWER SUPPLY!

    actually check this often happens as a result of difference in rx & tx connections in a cross over ethernet cable!!go to your nic settings and change the setting to 10mbit half duplex,if it can ping properly then go and buy a "straight ethernet cable" and then try with the full speed settings!

    just open network connections right click on your lan card
    ->proerties
    ->configure
    ->advanced
    ->speed & dulex (r sumthing similar)
    ->set it to 10 mbit half duplex
    if u get stable pings with this setting,then go to some computer shop and tell them to give u ethernet cable! it costs around 12rs per meter & 15rs per meter for the good one's
