Rep Power: 0 | Hi, I am willing to get a BSNL broadband connection and shall be using it on my home desktop PC but also want to have the wireless option (for future). I heard that the modems BSNL provides get heated up; and someone also said that the wireless signal is not very strong.
Thanks in Advance, Ashish. |

Rep Power: 2 | 1.Yes we do get better modems from market. The quality of modems provided by bsnl is not tat gud.go 4 a linksys,d-link modem 2. A wireless modem connects to ur internet as well as make the network wireless 3. There are both options available 4. A decent wireless router would be linksys WRT54G Rs.2700 -- no modem. A wireless router with modem would cost more. dun hv the approx idea abt it. The wireless router offered by bsnl is pretty gud when compared with its xpensive alternates. U wont get nething cheaper than 2000 bucks for a wireless router offered by bsnl |

Rep Power: 2 | wireless modems are wireless routers with adsl port, where as wireless routers dont hav the adsl port!! anyway if you hav money to spend i would recomend getting a wired adsl modem and a Buffalo WHR-HP G54 as it has the best wireless range for a very low price! or if your going for wireless modems go for netgear or d-link coz linksys has given my friend a lot of headaches! |

Rep Power: 0 | Thanks to everyone for providing all this information I have a fundamental question If a wireless modem does the same job as a modem+wireless router then why do people spend more money and go for modem+wireless router Can someone throw light on this please. Thanks, Ashish. |

Dear friend sharks_me, Thanks for the prompt reply and all the valuable info you shared. I tried but couldn't find any information regarding wireless router on BSNL's website. I could find only 4 modems that BSNL offers listed here The wireless ones cost Rs.1800/- Can you please give me some more detail regarding the device you are pointing to. It would be nice if you could look for it on their website and provide the URL. Thanks, Ashish. | |

a) First, most people buy the router from the ISP. People may not trust ISP's to provide the "best in class" equipment. For example, Linksys and Netgear are generally considered to be the best in the SOHO (Small Office, Home Office) scenario; but you may get equipment from unknown brands when you buy from an ISP. b) Sometimes "wireless at home" is not planned - it evolves over time. Laptops have become cheaper and affordable just recently. c) Many people buy Wireless routers abroad or already have it when they order a BB connection (as it was in my case). This is especially true of people who return to India.

Rep Power: 0 | Hi, Reading the replies, BSNL's Type IV (wireless) modem seems to be the best option....as it will do the same what a wired modem + a wireless router will do.......and would also costs much lesser... Can anyone comment on BSNL's Type IV modem....its performance...its connectivity...its range...is it fault prone...etc... Thanks in Advance, Ashish |
