I feel that the whole arguments are so futile but whitestar is correct in theory and essentials:

    - at 2 mbps max, you should get a max speed of 256 kBps
    - the true test of a download is an actual file download from server or RS or torrent (with nothing else consuming bandwidth)
    - speed tests are not necessarily accurate

However, if you are indeed getting better speeds than promised, why argue? Just enjoy.

    this is my turn...
    im in home500 and yesterday my DL(5GB) + UL(1.2GB) = 6.2GB from 2:15 to 7:45.
I checked with the net meter.. it showing average download speed is 700KBps. But i caluculated manually it should be some 300KBps. I feel that 5GB DL is good for 5.5hrs. What u guys say??

aruncse30 the dl amount you mentioned how do you calculate it.i mean is this the total size of all files you downloaded or you used net meter to see how much data transfer took place.if you have used net meter values then check if the size of all files you downloaded is indeed equal to 5GB.also from 2:15-7:45 it is 4.5 hrs not 5.5
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

my mistake i was a little sleepy at that moment.
just one last confirmation.you said torrents so are they finished downloading.there is a setting in uTorrent which let you select how you want to allocate disc space for torrent--in 1st method entire space is reserved & then downloading begins.in 2nd case size increases gradually as downloading continues.
what i meant to say is are your torrents are finished downloading in uTorrent window.if yes then are you using private torrents.

thats what i am talking about.so your actual download is 4 complete movies+60%of 2 movies which should be less than 5GB as according to 5GB you are getting around 2118kbps which is even more than theoratical max of 2mbps or 2048kbps.what are the movies sizes by the way?

it cant be buddy.. i couted completed movies and the size is around 4.2GB and the size of uncompleted movies are 695 & 710... it has completed 60% means say 400mb each... even i can able to play the 60% movie for some time.... so i downloaded 4.2GB + some playable size.

thats weird.your entries are exactly 15 min apart.i think you should check your scheduler settings by changing the time to reboot at,say,9PM & then see if modem reboots after 15 min.otherwise there might be some problem with power supply(voltage fluctuations?).

There is definitely some problem with BSNL broadband, because after some time of connection it diconnects automatically,or its atrick played by BSNL guys to limit download at free hours. If you are not stting your connection properly,I mean redial attemps or IE connection dialer or scheduler properly then you are dead, you sleep at night hoping 5 Gs in the morning and you end up with ) 0.5G when you wake up,

I am really angry with BSNL,they are giving out EVDO connections with 24 Hrs unlimited and at 550/month, thats unfair,I mean how many of you guys are not ready to give a connection charges of 3500 Rs for subscription of 550/month unlimited,I am ready to give 1000/month for that connection, and there is no scheme of increasing the download time as of now for wired broadband users, really unfair,BSNL wirefree for 24 hrs unlimitedf at 2.4mbps and wired connection for 6hrs at 2mbps

Can anybody tell me how can I schedule my dailup,so that I don't have to chck if its connected or not every now and then,I have scheduled to redial in every possible way directly or indirectly(through IE,scheduling IE in windows scheduler and setting the connection to dial whenever a connection is not available, even through my IDM).Only I need is ,how can I schedule it in windows scheduler to redial in ,say, every 1 or 2 mins.thanks for any help possible

this EVDO 2.4mbps is in testing phase & only available at very few places in whole country otherwise every one will take this & leave the wired broadband.even where it is available users reported speeds from 256kbps-1mbps.sometimes it reches to 1.2mbps but average is between 256kbps-1mbps.

it can not be idle if you are downloading something as in case of torrents.

I don't think its the problem because, when you have scheduled any download or if you are in the middle of downloading something ,it can't be treated as idle time, because the connection is in use,I still have seen BSNL getting disconnected in the middle of download, thank to my good old scheduler in windows and my IDM,the connection is again restored within seconds,I have fixed my dial up to dial automatically when it gets disconnected it tries dials every 1 sec untill it gets connected(for 999 times ) ,I keep my IE open and gmail logged in so that when there is no connection it dials a connection, and for IDM is also the same, so there is no way of disconnection for idleness ,still it gets disconnected 4-5 times a night (2-8).

it doesn't matter whether bridge mode or pppoe.the errors will result in disconnection just that in bridge mode windows show the error no.
