Default How to personally setup a Netgear Router

Here is the scenario. I have bought a Netgear 834G wireless router to use with my laptop. When I tried to configure it with my BSNL Broadband connection, it is taking the vci/vpi values as 8/35 in place of 0/35 and is unable to retrieve the BSNL DNS or default gateway values from the BSNL servers. I spoke to the BSNL Divisional engineer but he said they won't do it for me since I bought the modem myself.. I have tried it 3-4 times and failed. I then tried the manual settings but still I could not connect the router/modem. Can someone help me in doing it?

VCI/VPI values sometimes default to the country code. You should select the proper country and then select PVC0 interface. The ADSL options should allow you to select the proper PVCn interface and allow to set the VCI/VPI values. If not check whether a firmware update is available. Please post your results.

Please read this as: VCI/VPI values default to the values based on the country code. For US, the default VCI/VPI values are 8/35.
