| Hello, I have a ZTE modem, ZXDSL831AII and wireless router from ProNET (IP 192.168.0.31) . I have 10 wired computers, IP 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.10 and 3 wireless laptops, IP 192.168.0.21 to 192.168.0.23. How can I connect all of these. How to backup the ZTE data first in case I mess up something. In fact I started a new post for this problem, http://www.indiabroadband.net/bsnl-b...aii-modem.html (Wireless Router to ZTE ZXDSL 831AII modem) can I use your guide for this modem and router? |

| Hello, I will try to help from the tips I have received on this forum. I assume you have a modem from Tata and the settings are already done in this so that the connection is always on. LAN Ip address of modem is most likely 192.168.1.1. We move forward with this assumption. The modem has 2 IP addresses, one external, which may be set automatically by Tata or they may have given you a static IP address to input. In any case, this is not to be fiddlewith. The modem will also have a option of DHCP server, so that it can assign LAN IP's automatically. This can be turned off. Now remove the modem and connect the router to any computer to configure it. This will most likely have a LAN IP address as 192.168.1.1 hence both the router and Modem cannot be connected at the same time yet. Change the LAN IP address of router to a different series, say 192.168.2.1. This same series is to be used for computers on the LAN. If you change this and reboot you may not be able to access the router from the computer if it has a static IP address of 192.168.1.x. This has to be changed to 192.168.2.x series. Then again you can access the router config. Now in router WAN, make the IP address as 192.168.1.2, same series as modem. Put the gateway as 192.168.1.1 and DNS server as 192.168.1.1, both pointing to the modem. Now connect the modem to the internet port of the router. You should be able to access the modem also now from the computer. In short, the modem has WAN ip assigned automatically or as given by your ISP, the LAN IP is 192.168.1.1. The router WAN IP is 192.168.1.2 and LA Ip is 192.168.2.1 and gateway/DNS1 are 192.168.1.1. The computers on the network need to have IP 192.168.2.x and gateway/dns1 as 192.168.2.1, poiting to the router. I hope you get the general idea. This should work. I have assumed you understand how to access the modem config and you can change the settings. Hope this helps, else you can consult just4kix, he has a very good knowledge of this it seems. |
