Default networking confusion

Hi kix, I have a zyxel P-600 modem/router for my DSL connection. I bought a linksys wired router (BEFSR) to be able to share my internet connection and as I was told, I do not need to configure the modem (which is initially in bridge mode) I only need to connect it to the linksys router and setup the DHCP and its all set. I did those and it worked, however, the internet connection would go on limited connectivity after some period of time and whenever that happened I had to restart the computers sharing the internet connection to be able to get a new working internet connection. It was like that until I changed the modem settings to routing mode and used a static IP in the linksys router. Up until now I am using double routing and the internet connection is ok except that Im having problems with regard to port issues since also need to double port forward which is a big hassle. How do I share my internet with the DSL modem in bridge mode?

@wormz, what do you mean by double port forwarding?

If you wish to have ICS, then you must do the following:

a) Setup zyxel and linksys routers in bridge mode
b) There should be one primary computer connected to the linksys router
c) The internet connection on this primary computer must be shared.
d) all other pc will connect to internet through the primary computer's intenet connection
e) All other PCs will be able to surf internet only as long as the primary computer is connected to internet.

No kix, i dont want to have one computer to act as server. is it possible for my zyxel to be in bridge mode and my linksys would share the internet through its 4 ports?

Right now my setup is like that but both the zyxel modem/router is in routing mode so im using double routing. I can portforward in linksys but won't pass through zyxel bcoz I dont know how to portforward there as well.

Double portforwarding.. I read that in some forum which said that its ok to use double routers but the downside is that you also have to double portforward ports to get through both router firewalls.

@wormz, If you wish your setup to be like what you have mentioned, then please do the following:

a) Zyxel modem/router in bridge mode
b) Linksys wired router in PPPoE mode (username/password stored inside the router configuration) and dialing automatically
c) Assign static IP addresses to all your machines connected to Linksys. The IP address must be part of the Linksys' subnet addresses, i.e., if Linksys router's internal Ip address is 192.168.2.1 then your subnet IP addresses are in the range 192.168.2.2 to 192.168.2.254.
d) You must port-forward the ports on the machines in your linksys router. Sice Zyxel is in bridge mode, all IP addresses are automatically forwarded.

kix, i already tried that setup before but the internet connection always gets disconnected after a few hours and i needed to restart everything to get a new working connection. Im observed that it happens when the lease time period expires. I wonder why is it that when I directly plugin my DSL to one computer and the lease time expires I still got my connection working but whenever it is shared over the linksys router I lose my connection and have to restart..
