    Default dataone sucks!!!!!(in my opinion)

    hello everybody

i am posting this message because i cannot hold my stomach anymore ...

i have UL900 plus plan and i am really pissed off from the download speed, it is giving only 15-20 kb/s i am really just ...............................i cant tell you how i am feeling!

earlier i have planned that taking an unlimited connection would be of no tension, 24 hrs online and i also thought that dataone connection was really broadband(i dont know what is the definition of broadband for bsnl) broadband hell broadband, such horrible speeds i dont know why this is happening to me only, as most of the users are satisfied i dont know how?

This is strange. I have the same UL900 plan.

as i have said most of the users are satisfied

and i doubt speedtest.net is fake, i have already gone through the test and it was displaying 430-500 kbps

check your actual download speed while downloading something from the net then see the results.................................

Ah! I see that you are not aware of those "bits and bytes" fundas. Call them fine print of the contract if you will.

Broadband speed is advertised in kilobits per second or kbps. We often read kb as kilobytes. Now you know that 1 byte = 8 bits. When we start any download, the speed is shown in kBps. Note the uppercase B in kBps, which denotes kilobytes per second.

So when you have a BB speed of 256 kbps, the maximum download speed that can be achieved is 32 kBps. This is assuming that the load on the source server is minimum. If the the source is very busy naturally speed will be less.

When we come to know of these facts we feel frustrated, betrayed, and cheated.

hello friend yes the plan ul900 supports only 30kbps, because its max speed is 256kbps as specified by bsnl,
my best suggestion is to get ul500 its upto 2mbps,i myself using it,morning 0200 to 0800 hrs free usage,u can get 200 kbps download speed,

trust me friend iam a BSNL employee, get plan change as early as possible

    hello ashok

i am not feeling good of about changing my plan because of password theft, resulting in disastrous billing and let me tell you something that you are saying that i will get a download speed of 200 kbps (kilobits per second) not KBps (kilobytes per second ) as downloading is measured in KBps.
thanks to just4kix as he explained the kbps fundas to me.

so by calculation i think i will get around 25 KBps which is not so impressive (to me).

and secondly the time of unlimited download is really absurd to me because i am a class 12th student i have to got to sleep by 11 or 12 pm to wake up early next morning.

and thirdly who will reset the the modem at 2 am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@player, There are some scripts posted by some excellent people here which can automate the task of reseting the modem for you. Just to be safe, the modem should be reset after 2:05 am and again before 7:55 am.

Download managers can help you in restarting where you left of earlier.

But on the whole, it is better to stay away from limited plans if you are a heavy downloader.

All the best for your Class XII exams.

Ok let me go further. If he tried to enter my passs & name is his router then he'll get authentication fail error.

    can anyone enlighten me??

    @Logik,

First a request. Would you please stay away from SMS like language? It is difficult for "oldies" like me to understand the same.

    To answer your doubt:

    a) BSNL does not send encrypted signals.

    b) Most BSNL broadband connections are port binded, i.e., the username is linked to the phone number. So it is not possible to access your connection from a different phone number; even by yourself; even if at the same residence/office.

Well, The BSNL connections are not port binded all over India. So there is a chance that at such places (where there is no port-binding) someone can use your login id and password to surf the net. All that person needs is an ADSL modem and a PC.

This is what he means by password theft and over billing.

Beats me. But that is the way it is. I have UL900 plan so I have no idea.

But it seems that to get Unlimited options for other plans we are required to start a new session during that period (2 AM to 8 AM). Apparently if an already open session started before 2 AM continues in the free period, the free period option is not realized and the entire session's download is considered for the non-free time.

On the same basis, it could be argued that a session started between 2 AM to 8 AM and continuing beyond 8 AM should be considered as free.

This is all speculative and no one wants to take a chance.

Hence it is highly advisable to shutdown the modem before 2 AM and restart it after 2 AM (and then again shut it off before 8 AM). This is just making double sure that you are not taking risks.

    hello logik,
u r wrong, any BB user can use any password within that circle(like sancharnet) if the DSLAM in the exchange is not port binded(do u understand),if it is port binded then ur password will work with ur line only(like netone),so don't leak password to any body,if already leaked then immediately change ur password in BSNL NIB-II PORTAL

    sorry friend u misunderstood me
its 200-300 kBps i din't make any mistake
i have downloaded 15 GB in 8 days in free hours iam getting a movie of 700 MB in just 2 hrs.
at the time of 0200 u will get good speed why because traffic is less at ur DSLAM,so keep a scheduler will help u better,

    @just4kix,
i will advice u in tis topic,

1.download "free download manager ", u can get it in net @free

    2. in FDM u can schedule connection at any time, and u can schedule download urls in FDM

u can download any thing without waking up at 2:00 am (and even for switching on the system),i will tell how can we switch on system automatically,

3.go to bias setting(by clicking DEL key at startup)->power management settings-> in that u can see time setting to switch on system automatically.

    4. set the time as 02:05 in bias settings,

    5. just schedule a connection at 02:10(5 mins for bootig) in FDM, and schedule a download link(ex. a movie url) at 02:12,thats all

    6. all u have to do is just shutdown ur system(at the time of sleeping disconnect the active connection) don't turn off main switch, and keep modem
    switch on,

    what will happen:
first at 02:05 system will switch on automatically
second at 02:10 connection is established by FDM
third at 02:12 starts downloading... thats all

give ur responce if u like this post yaar,

    Dear Ashok,

I like your method and I think it will work.

However, I am having UL900 plan so I do not have to schedule anything. I would prefer "safety" over "speed" .

Perhaps I am getting old and senile.

Yep. The home UL500 is only for users who only browse and download only at nights.Still there are people who needs to download stuffs at non-free times , they prefer UL900.Juz incase if the free timings are changed to 5pm to 11pm see the change of members from UL500 to UL900.

I download an average of some 40GB per month wid UL900 .

    btw @ just4kix,

Dude speedtest.net is not a real one i guess , coz i get high download speed with a UL900 plan. check out
