Wel i get sme 250-260kBps at night unlmtd
when downloading from rapidshare as free user..
its around 60KBs i.e 480 kbps.. but highly variable..
When I was using this connection I was getting 1800 or More kbps some times it even reached 3 mbps I wonder how![]()
Home500 has a notoriously variable speed, but of course this is true for almost all the limited plans. The "up to 2Mbps" bullshit is a dead giveaway.
During peak hours bandwidth can drop to 256Kbps or less, but during off peak hours you can get 1-1.5Mbps easily.
As a number of posters have stated, during the night time unlimited period (2am-8am) you can expect anywhere between 150-250KBps i.e. 1.6-2.6 Mbps.
Anyway the poll is a bit flawed because the ranges are never so tightly bound, and speeds can range anywhere between 256Kbps to up to 2 Mbps, depending on a vareity of factors.
The speed we are talking about here is solely download speed, not browsing speed. If you use a good download manager then you are bound to get more than 200kBps, but if you are downloading through torrent at the same time with http(or FTP) downloads, then speeds might get little bit lower ; around 180 or so.
The factor here, which limits the speed drastically, is the server speed, if there is no connection problem in your landline (like poor wiring, wrong phone-ADSL splitter connection etc).
This is my second home 500 connection and I am still satisfied with the speed.
So now I have tried this connectin in Odisha and AP, and I don't see any difference in speed.

And BTW friends, after I relocated to Hyd, recently I got my new home 500 connection and the speed is still rocking. I downloaded more than 20 GB in last 5 days.
usually in night the speed decreases and it is about 300 to 400 kbps but at 8:01 minute it will come back to it's form
1800 or More kbps
while downloading from RS Premium i get 235+ kBps Constant, and while using torrents 200 - 205 kBps![]()
i only get 100kbps max ..... how can i change it ....
i use torrents from private sites .... plz help ....

Is your plan home 500 ?
There is not much to do for torrents except for the port forwarding problem(search on the site, lots of posts about this).
Use 2-3 or more torrents at a time to utilize the full bandwidth, because getting more than 100kBps from one torrent is rare, last night I downloaded 10000 BC and Maxpayne(movie) ,both axxo files , but still I got around 150kBps from both, and that is anough though, because both of them were completed in one night.
But for http and ftp downloads, use a good download manager like IDM. At 99% of time you would get more than 200kBps.
I ma confused reading these varied opinion. I am havng Alliance bb in kolkata and its not upto the mark wrt the money i shell out. I want to shift to BSNL but which plan to go for HOME 750 UL (which is still now on Rs. 500 offer) or HOME 500 Combo?

it seems that something is cupping my bandwidth.. i have home500 plan and used to get 200kBps everytime but this month it is being limited to 140kBps. i think bsnl is cupping my bandwidth. does it have to do anything with the fact that i downloaded 150 gigs in the last two months??
same thing happening to a friend of mine.. he's being limited to 150kBps.
anybody any guesses?
