I usually get around 200KBps or more, but it’s not very stable. I’ve found Airtel’s speeds to be far more stable and faster.

Its been a week since i got my broadband.
I use to get an average of 220 to 230 KBps at night time for regular downloads... I observed an average rate aroung 160KBps for Rapidshare. Torrent speed seens much unstable and average speed per download found to vary from 80 - 130KBps...

Are you talking about a single torrent or multiple torrents.
Because it is a rare situation where you expect to get 200+ speed from one torrent. You may have to download from multiple torrents at a time to reach the full speed.

    puchu, thanks for that info.

Actually i was saying about the average speed i got in downloading a single file... I have'nt tried downloading multiple files at a time...

Also, i know about port forwarding, but i have'nt yet done anything to forward my ports... I use a utorrent client, when it checked at some site, when i started it for the first time, it said, 'My ports are forwarded properly'.
Do i need to do portforwarding anyhow??? Will it improve my torrent perfomance??? [i use an iBall Baton modem]

You can try port forwarding if you feel that you are not getting maximum speed.

    Try this
    http://www.indiabroadband.net/broadb...ing-guide.html

    You can also try portforward.com

If µTorrent says ports are forwarded, then no need to do it.
As you are saying you are getting avg 80-130 rom one torrent, then it is very good, no need to worry. Add one two more torrent in parallel, that's all.You may tweak µTorrent by adjusting max half open connections in settings(only if you face low speeds).

I have found out that if you limit the upload speed a bit(little less than max upload speed you are getting now) in scheduler, that improves the download speed.

400 KBPS , you get that for just a few seconds or at a constant pace..?

May be some download manager is showing that value.

ya i too thought so, if it is just for a sec or two then no problem, if it is coming at a constant pace then it surely is of a DM which shows fake speed.

In India service providers are not able to give the speed which they only promise and here it is showing more then they can ever imagine

If I download 3 or 4 files together I get around 200kbps download speed. But if I download single file I get somewhere 50 to 80 kbps. Why?

In torrents or regular downloads ?

    If in torrents, try portforwarding

The speed changes time to time and different server different speed.

If ping response time is more then speed is less or if ping response time is less then speed is more. Is it true?

it`s easy to get a speed of 2mb in night and that also in torrent..
But the thing you need is the phone wiring way..
There is a trick to have max connectivity speed..
If anyone is interested to know then pm me regarding it.

It might be the fedora server problem, try changing the FTP source.
Did you use the following address ?
    ftp://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub...inux/releases/
If not , then try it.

    Another FTP is:-

    ftp://203.178.137.175/pub/Linux/
