Shaplus bandwidth meter is a good tool. But it calculates the value independently. The values has nothing to do with BSNL values. But for us, it is BSNL values that matters so counter check with BSNL portal at regular intervals. It will be wise to leave a gap of 50 MB. There will be a difference of about 20 MB.

You may use netmeter or bandwidth monitor, they both show usage in real time of all or any particular network of your choice.

Actually what I found out was that the speed is some how variable according to the place of your connection. The lesser the number of subscribers under your exchange the more the speed limit becomes flexible. I had my last net connection in Secunderabad where the number of subscribers is too high, I used to get speed of 218 MAX, but here at home where number of subscribers is about 80% less, so the speed shoots upto 245 easily and occasionally gets above 260 both at night and day time. There is no specific trick.instead you can take better care of a few things which may stabilize your connection or may improve it a bit.
  • Try to have lesser number of joins in your landline.
  • Never ever put a phone before the splitter
  • use a good quality LAN cable and phone cable for modem
  • look for rusted joints in your phone line and clean them up
  • use some good firewall like COMODO(little bit hard to use in the beginning) which will only allow the programs to use your BW which allow and stop all other useless(Microsoft) processes which reserve chunks of BW for nothing.

Do I need to pay for chargeable units from now itself or is it just for showing usage and that I'll have to pay only when I exceed 2.5 GB/month...?

Don't worry dude!!!! You are very well under your monthly free limit of 2.5 GBs!!!!!! Your net usage is almost 12 MBs, so you will not be charged for that untill you cross your Free Download Limits (2.5 GBs). But it is always wise that you keep an eye regularly on your Total Chargeable units. Better disconnect 15 minutes prior to 8 am and also connect at 15 minutes after 2 am. So in this way you will be on the safe side!!!!!!

Also always remember that when the tab "Total Chargeable Units shows more than 2500 MBs then only you have to pay for the excess usage. That means your monthly limit of 2.5 GBs is deducted out of the total units you have used!!!!!!!

No , it means that you should keep the line in the following order:-

  • land line
  • the amplifier box(the small white box to which the landline from exchange is connected and O/P is taken to phone and/or modem)
  • output of amplifier box to the splitter input(which says "line")
  • one out put of splitter to phone(from where it is written "phone" on splitter)
  • other output to modem(from where it is written "ADSL or modem" on splitter)
Most of the time the ADSL O/P and the LINE I/P ports can be seen on the same side of the splitter. So don't get confused . The LINE port is I/P and the ADSL and the Phone ports are O/P ports.

Hope I didn't confuse you.
