Exclamation Sharing 2 pc without having HUB:

    HI friends .

Am having ut300r2u( 1 lan port and 1 usb port).

Am having two computers. And having the utstar router provided by bsnl. I need to connect my both the computers simultaneously to the Internet without the HUB or SWITCH...........

because i am not having HUB or switch...

In my utstar router, there are 1 lan port and 1 usb port.. By using the UTstar router, can i connect lan port to my pc and usb port to my Laptop.

Is it possible without having the external hub??????

Because i feel that the 1 lan and usb port itself acts as a HUB and hence we can connect simultaneously 2 systems without using any external hub.

    Is it possible??????????????????????????????????????????

    Pls reply...

    Default I don't think so

    Better to purchase/make a crossover Cat5 (for 10/100) or Cat6 (1000) cable.
If u are using XP then run home netwroking wizard on both the system.

One should conenct directly to the internet and other through this.

Although Dynamic IP Allocation is easy to handle but i still insist on manually assigning IPs to each system.

I am using the same setup for connecting 10 systems to one broad band connection using a switch.

    For further help reply

Yes. You can connect two machines like what you have explained. As 'rock_daring' has said, you must run the home networking wizard, i.e., add your machines to a workgroup. This will allow file sharing.

This kind of setup allows only two machines to be connected to network. If you do not need to add more machine, then go with this. Else I will recommend a wireless router. A switch will also work but then you will have to run wires.

It is possible to connect one PC to LAN port and another to USB port and use internet simultaneously.

You must configure the modem in PPPoE mode. Please refer to the many guides in Broadband How to section.

I wouldnt recommend use of a crossover owing to the fact that the primary connection would have to be always on for the second to work whenever you want. Besides it really slows down the first pc - routing is a resource hogger.

If your modem/router is capable of providing at least two ip addresses then go for the USB + ethernet connection. If not, you could try forcing a consecutive IP address in the same subnet on the NIC of the second pc and if that still doesn't work - get a switch - the 4/5 port ones comes at about a hundred or two.
