    Default UT300R2 Problem

I've been using BSNL Home 500 for quite a long time and the modem is the UT300R2...For the past month or so, my modem is causing a lot of problems, mainly the WAN connection gets disconnected (the orange light goes off). There doesn't seem to be a problem with the phone line. I think i've been using the modem for about 2 years. So is it that, the modem is facing the end of its life or any other problem.

It is possible but a modem should not 'die' so quickly. Let the problem be confirmed by a technician (from BSNL or private) before buying another.

If you are having problems with CPE, call up technician and to replace the same.

    What is CPE ??

Actually a technician came up, and after checking it he asked to check the modem adapter, cause he had a doubt that even that could be the prob. But when i took the adapter to an electronics shop, it seemed to work properly.
But i haven't tried my modem with a new adapter.

Default Is the DSL LED is disconnecting?

Which is the LED. If it is DSL may be due to poor quality of line.

CPE means Customer Premises Equipment, i.e., the splitter, router, etc.

Since the modem appears to be working, there may be a problem with your line. Also test your modem at your friend's place.

Well i had the same problem, the wan ppoe light blinks off and the net gets dc.
Its really horrible that it wont connect again for 3-4 hours, even if it does again it'll blink.
Its the modem due to which this happens.i replaced my old modem and my net works fine now.The modem has a very low lifespawn when used extensively Sucks

better not to get into conclusions very soon.. it need not be a modem problem.. since how long are you facing this problem? if its since a few hours then it could be a temporary issue and would be sorted out by bsnl

If possible try to get a modem for 2/3 days from your friend, configure similar settings of your current modem and test it for 2 days or so... then you will be able to come to a conclusion where exactly the problem lies.

Well as u said the problem may be in the setup at ur place for the phone and the modem. The wire that comes to the modem should come from the splitter and the re should be no other connection between the splitter and the direct cable that comes from BSNL.Check it .Cos the connection drops when u got a case that the direct cable that comes from BSNL is attended by some other device before the splitter.

thanks for the suggestion, but , i have never altered the connection setup, the main line goes into splitter and from there one line to phone and other to modem. I connect my modem to system with a usb cable. the disconnection problem is mostly during the 2 to 8 am period. it seems to work fine later on.

The upstream an ddownstream values in the modem configuration page seems to have changed. The down stream rate is just 1mbps.Is there any way we can change it.

you cant change downstream.. if it has suddenly changed it could be a temporary issue.. probably they are doing some upgradation work or something

    Hi,
The upstream and Downstream values keep changing for me. and have no internet for 2 days. At times dsl light is solid but i cant connect the net trough Bridge connection. I am getting error code 678. the internet light in the modem didt glow for last 2 days.

please let me know which one is more stable PPPoe or Bridge connection.

HI as superprash said ppoe is better. But the problem in ur case is not because of the connection type cos unless u get a signal from bsnl both the types will not work.
Hence the error that ur getting 678 saying something like remote server timed out or did not connect ...or something like that is from BSNL end.Hence there is practically nothing that an end used can do to get rid of this error.
It gets generate when the connections exceed the server capacity of BSNL.
Hence the only thing that u can do in such situation is to keep redialing.

I had the same problem but rectified it. here's how i did it
in modem settings(192.168.1.1) in device info in statistics click adsl. if the type is adsl 2 then u shuld change it to G.DMT.
to change it to g.dmt go to advanced setup and click dsl.
uncheck adsl 2 and adsl 2+ and ensure that g.dmt is checked and save.
in management click save and reboot.

i had the same problem( disconnection and then cannot connect for 2 hrs) but this resolved the problem. try it and if it doesn't work then change settings back to normal.

Are u sure this really works ......or did it happen as a mere coincidence.
Cos the error that we are trying to resolve is basically from the server of the service provider.Hence our computer is only a dumb terminal who is bound to accept connection only if the server provides one ..........
Well this info regarding the connection and the server error was provided to me by a BSNL employee.....
What he had said was ......BSNL has provided more connections than its server capacities hence whenever a user tries to connect he gets the connection only if there are ports empty at the server for new connections.
And if the server is full to its capacity then it drops that error 678.
BSNL is trying to increase the capacity since 2002 but dont know till today many times during the peak hours few people do get this error.
Hence i would like to ask how did u come to know that this resolves the problem .....cos if it really does then may be even i wil try it.

i don't know any technical aspects. i just changed different settings and found out that it solved the problem. i had the problem(slow speeds, cannot connect for 2 hrs once i disconnect) and it solved it. u can just try no harm in that. if it doesn't solve go back to previous settings.
