    Exclamation Immediate Help Needed !!!

    Hi frds,

Some of you know that i have been fighting to get BSNL broadband. Finally they have committed to provide the connection by tomorrow.beofre that i jus want to know few things.

    1. Is bsnl providing Lan card, if we ask? (this i forgot to ask them today)
    2. I have opted for Type 1 modem.. however still i haven't decided whether i should go for purchase or rental. What you guys suggest?

Please reply as soon as possible.

Yes, they do provide lan card for every connection.
For your second query, i feel that you should go for outright purchase of modem rather than going for rental, which is just a waste of money. The modem they give is relatively good to go long term, you can buy it.

bsnl does not provide lan card unless you pay some extra.bsnl's type I modem is ok & you don't have to decide right now to purchase it or not.monthly rental is Rs.60 & after 6 months if you decide to buy your rental till that date will be adjusted against the rs.1200 for type I modem.
also bsnl only provide support for modems taken from them whether on rental or outright purchase.my suggestion is take the modem on rental & play with it for a month to understand all the technical settings & details related with a modem.after you have learned enough you can decide whether to buy it from bsnl or some better modem from market.

no dear bsnl does not provide a lan card to you. infact u are using a system above pentium 2 then ur motherboard will contain a inbuilt lan card. And please dont go for a rent basis , go for a purchase one.

I fully agree niraj on with outright purchase. BSNL does not provide LAN card. LAN card is not necessarily built in into the motherboard - sometimes they are, sometimes not. If your system does not have a built-in LAN, you can purchase LAN card from the market or on eBay (starts at Rs. 350 + shipping).

Who knows? Why get into that hassle? I would recommend to buy outright. Anyway, the amount is payable in the next month's telephone bill.

p/s. Be prepared for a big bill next month - legitimate of course because all charges plus deposits will be payable then.

I went for rental with a Type IV modem. The reason is there is frequent power fluctuation in my area and very possible the modem will go bad within the year. With rental, BSNL will replace the modem at no extra charge.

Router is covered under limited warranty for one year - purchased or rented.

    Warranty does not cover:

    a) Damage due to power fluctuations
    b) Damage attributed to user - water contact, excessive humidity, etc.
    c) Damage due to incorrect firmware upgrades and such acts

For the above, you need insurance.
