    Lightbulb unlimited connection

I have taken 900+ unlimited connection from this month(feb 08).This plan is proving to be the worst ever plan. It takes about 20 min or more to download a 10 mb file from most sites. Not to mention the worst speed for torrent downloads. Is it because of the cable breakdown near egypt or this plan has this useless speed (previously I had 500 plan from which i switched over to this plan this month)? Please suggest some tips to improve the speed and also a good download manager.

    Thanks.

In the UL900+ plan the speed is capped to 256 kbps which means that you will get 32 kBps as the file download speed. This is assuming all ideal conditions, i.e., you are indeed getting 256 kbps, the source server is not uncommonly busy, etc.

    Doing the math futher:

    a) You wish to download 10mb file i.e 10240 kB.
    b) On a straight line, at 32 kBps this should take you 320 seconds; but it does not work that way.
    c) When a file is being downloaded, there are bits and pieces being downloaded. After each piece is download, a CRC check is also performed to verify that the piece was downloaded correctly.
    d) In PPPoE connections, there are 8 bits that form the header information and 1492 bits of file (this is the MTU or maximum transfer unit).
    e) If CRC check fails, the piece is downloaded again.

One cannot ideally state that the file will take such and such time to download completely.

20 minutes for 10 MB is on the higher side but I have seen it happen at 256 kbps speeds. Also the undersea cable being damaged has clogged other available lines.

Yes, its not always such slow but could be due to the fact that the recent cable breakdown in the sea. Try after some days. And regarding the download manager, the free download manager is best and is enough for all needs.

Free Download Manager - absolutely free download accelerator and manager

With unlimited connection you get this much time to download a 10 mb file as you must be getting a download speed around 30 kbps (if you have a 256 kbps connection) and if you go for 500 limited plan then you may get high download speed but with that you may also have to pay extra for extra usage of bandwith then permitted.
