first configure your bsnl modem by entering into its config. page by typing 192.168.1.1,make sure only bsnl modem is connected to you pc.
    set it to bridge mode.

then connect your linksys router to your pc and enter into its config. page see the manual on how to enter the config page or you can type 192.168.1.1
then configure your router to pppoe (Point to point protocol over etherenet)

then connect both the modems through LAN cable and you are ready to go!!

by the way i dont have much idea about this because i have only bsnl modem.

Hmmm..OK.. here goes...First make bsnl modem to dial (ppoe) i hope you know how to do that, if not i'll explain that later...enable dhcp in the bsnl modem(i think its enabled by default, just cross-check)...
Then connect your linksys router to any pc to configure it, go to the login page type user name and password(i think its admin/admin or admin/password or admin/(blank).. there make sure you disable dhcp and set to bridged mode(not dialed mode cause bsnl modem is doing the dialing)...Thats it for the configuration..
Then connect your bsnl modem to the first LAN port of the linksys router..make sure you connect it to the LAN port and not the WAN port.. the WAN port will be seperated from the LAN ports, so you should be able to make out the difference..Then connect other pcs to the other LAN ports of your linksys router...
THe wireless configuration is standard, just like any other router.. set the SSID and better set a good WEP key.. and choose a channel like 6 or 11.. and you should be good to go!!All the best!!!!

It's not that easy dear... you won't understand how **** it is to configure WRT54G with SmartAX MT882, until and unless u wet your hands doing so...

Till today, I am not yet been able to configure it. I repeat none of the advice in this forum across all the threads/posts have been useful...

Hence, if anyone has really and physically configured the both with his own hand, only he/she is requested to post a step-by-step tutorials. No more trial & error please.....

1.Confirm you are using AX MT882 in "always On"
mode and connect to Internet Ok.

    2. Confirm in TCP/IP properties
you have selected Obtain IP address automatically.

    3.Post this data , with wrt54G connected.
Start RUN type cmd type ipconfig /all
( *note space after ipconfig )

    Thanks "essbebe" for ur concern.

Sometimes it's said that all mojor discoveries are out of an accident!!! Truly uttered...

However, all of a sudden, I figured out another way to sync between Huawei SmartAX MT882 and Linksys WRT54G (v7.0)...

Here is a step by step approach (and forgive my bad english)...

    1. RESET Linksys Router WRT54G by pressing the reset button for at least 20 seconds.

    2. After reset switch it off... for 30 secs.

    3. In the mean time, one thing I presume that the SmartAX MT882 has already been configured in PPPoE mode...

    4. Power on the WRT54G only with the connection between ur desktop/laptop and the router itself. No other connections as of now...

    5. Open any browser, type 192.168.1.1 and u will be directed to the web-page based setup of WRT54G.

    6. In the Basic SetUp, go to "Local IP address". Change it to 192.168.2.1

    7. U may also change the time zone (though not mandatory). Click "Save settings".

    8. The browser page will show "Save successful. Release/Renew IP". Close the browser.

    9. Open the command prompt (Start - Run - cmd)

    10. type ipconfig /release and it will show something like this:
    IP address: 0.0.0.0
    Subnet Mask: 0.0.0.0
    Default gateway: {it's blank}

    11. type ipconfig /renew and it will show something like this:
    IP address: 192.168.2.1
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Default gateway: 192.168.1.1

    12. Close command prompt. Switch off the WRT54G and connect the SmartAX MT882 with the WRT54g on its internet slot (NOT the ETHERNET slot). Switch it on.

    13. Open the browser and type 192.168.2.1

    14. In the WRT54G Setup page, Go to the "MAC Address Clone" sub-tab under the SetUp tab.

    15. Ensure that it is enabled (default is disabled). Now click on the "Clone Your PC's MAC" button. Save settings.

    16. Now, go to Wireless tab and configure as per the following:
    Mode: Mixed
Wireless Network Name: Any name u want (optional)
    Channel: 1-2.412GHz
    Wireless SSID broadcast: Enable

    Save settings.

    17. Goto Wireless Security sub-tab and configure as per the followings:
    Mode: WEP
    Transmit Key: 1
    WEP Encryption: 64bits - 10 hex digits
Key 1: combination of alphanumerics (e.g. abcde12345) and the number of digits should be exactly 10.

    Save settings.

    18. Switch off the WRT54G then SmartAX then Desktop.

    19. Power on all the devices (there is no sequence)

    20. In desktop, open command prompt and type
    ping 192.168.1.1 {u shud get positive response}
    ping 192.168.2.2 { -- do -- }
    ping mail.yahoo.com or any website { -- do -- }

    21. If u have laptop, use the wireless connection to log into ur newly created WiFi Network. In the laptop also, after connecting to the WiFi network, do the ping tests described above.

    22. U r ready to go online... Enjoy

And Now for God's sake, can any one help me out about how to port forward for U-torrent in SmartAX MT882.

TheFirmware of my SmartAX MT882 is like this:
    V200R001C01B021SP03
    Jun 20 2005

Hence, there is no option port thru the NAT menu (which the later versions of the firmware offer). I have to go thru the Virtual Servers menu..

I have gone thru the Potforwarding.com. There is one place where I am stumbling... They are asking for a static IP address. Now with DHCP enabled in my system (all along) how to get that static IP????? PLEASE HELP....

Setting timezone (on the router) does not really matter. However, if you are a purist (like me), set the correct time zone.

    Default help

    Hi..
I have been trying since 2 days to configure a linksys wrt54g router with a bsnl type 1 smart ax mt882 modem without success...
i had done the same 2 months back with instructions from this forum and somehow the modems got reset but i just dont remember how i did it...

    could you please tell me

    1. if i set the mt882 to pppoe do i need to enable or disable DHCP on it.. if i need to enable what should be the starting and ending ips?

    2. in the 'Basic setup' page of the WRT54g what do i choose as internet connection type: 'Automatic DHCP', 'Static IP', 'PPPoe' or something else?

    3. In the linksys WRT54g do i enable or disable DHCP?

    4. In the linksys WRT54g what do i need to enter as 'Static DNS1' 'Static DNS2' and 'Static DNS3'?

FYI, to open the modem copnfiguration page of the MT882 i change the Lan settings from 'Obtain IP address automatically' to

    IP adress 192.168.1.100
    subnet mask 255.255.255.0
    default gateway 192.168.1.1

    DNS servers

    218.248.240.208
    218.248.240.135

Only after making this change can i open the modem settings page

And then to open linksys config page i have to set it back to obtain automatically everytime!

Any help will be highly appreciated

Also once i do set up successfully can i save the settings so that it if it does reset itself later again i can get it back without going through this trouble again?
