Rep Power: 0 | Hi all, I am using Vista for my laptop. and trying to use my BSNL ZXDSL 531 wireless modem/router. My laptop shows the connectivity quoting "Connection:Local only." I can open the 192.168.1.1 to see the modem configuration. But somehow unable to access the internet. However, using cable, I am able to access internet. The wireless connection seems to have problem. Also to double check, I tried to ping yahoo.com, but it doesnt. Please help. Thanks in advance. N |

Rep Power: 5 | have you configured your tcp/ip settings correctly? are you manually assigning the ip or is the bsnl modem set to DHCP? |

Rep Power: 0 | Yes It's set to automatic acquire IP mode. But fortunately, I got it resolved by removing the bridge mode from modem and setting to pppoe mode. Thanks for your help. |

Rep Power: 2 | I have bought a new DELL laptop with Windows Vista Home Basic pre-installed. This laptop, when connected to wireless network, shows the connection as "Local access" only and does not allow me to browse the internet. (I have another old Toshiba laptop, which can connect to internet under identical conditions). The new DELL laptop however works perfectly fine if I physically connect the laptop with ADSL router with help of an ethernet cable. The connection status then shows "Local and Internet Access" and then everything is fine. This defeats the purpose of wireless capabilities of new laptop. I have the wireless modem supplied by BSNL. |

Rep Power: 5 | your wireless adapter is not getting any ip..so go to control panel->Network and sharing center->then at the left you would see under tasks something know as Manage network connections .. then right click on wireless network connections->click on properties->look for INTERNET PROTOCOL VERSION 4(TCP/IP4) and click on properties .. then select USE THE FOLLOWING IP ADDRESS and type ip as 192.168.1.10 .. then gwateway as 192.168.1.1 .. DNS servers as 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 |

Rep Power: 2 | Thank you very much, This solved my problem. I am now able to access internet via wireless. But I have a doubt. What is the guarantee that when I start my machine, that IP address is not dynamically allocated to somebody else? In that case, should I keep changing the last digit? |

Rep Power: 5 | 192.168.1.x is your internal ip.. that will be with your pc always.. 59.x.x.x or 117.x.x.x is your external ip which keeps changing.. your internal ip need not be changed |

Rep Power: 12 | @kdhrubo At least open the link and read. Why should I give a different WIFI router, if it is not useful ? It is painful to go on typing the same matter again and again, and links with screen shots help newbies and others. Any further clarification should be based on those websites. And please do give the info asked for. Even if you think ,not needed, some other experienced users can/may suggest solutions. based on your feedback. . |
