Default New connection - What's the problem?

    Migrated from Airtel to BSNL.
Using same ADSL modem - Billion Bipac 5200S.

The ADSL LED is constant (means its OK)
and PPP LED is also constant -(means userid/password combo match and ADSL line active...)

    Still I can't access/browse any webpages.
I think I'm missing something pretty much elementary.

Tried some DNS servers (no luck) -Can someone give me Chennai BSNL DNS server list?
    What could be wrong ?

type your ip address manually try this

ip address:192.168.1.(for this digit you can use any number from 2-250)
    subnet mask:255.255.255.0
    default gateway:192.168.1.1

    primary dns:192.168.1.1

and check whether your adsl modem is being detected by you pc in "my network connection" if it is not then you will not be able to surf the net.

wrong.you have to put these dns server addresses in the TCP/IP properties of your LAN connection.

    I don't need to.
Coz' I have them in my modem startup page [internally] itself.
I've entered them up, still no luck. That's why the query in the first place.

that means you are using pppoe mode.sometimes pppoe mode don't work for some.try bridge mode.set IP address & DNS server address to automatic & then see.in bridge mode you have to set everything in computer itself including username/pass.

Unless u are on UL plan, there is no need to set the modem on PPPoE mode. Try bridged mode.

    Got the problem resolved ...
The Billion modem somehow couldn't change its settings to use with BSNL. I don't even know how...

By the way, I'm using Dlink GLB-502T now with BSNL and everything looks fine now!
