Exclamation is it necessary to reboot the router

hello everybody

i recently joined broadband club. i want to know whether it is absolutely necessary to reboot the router for downloading at free hour.

Why cant we just leave the router turned on and schedule all the tasks like torrent etc in Win scheduler from 2 to 8am.

am a novice, so pl bear with my ignorance. i want answer.

if you are using ppoe mode where your internet works as soon as you switch on your modem, then yes you need to reboot your modem during free hours.. If you are using bridged mode where you use a windows dialer to connect then you dont need to reboot your router just schedule your computer to connect and disconnect

it is because BSNL billing software consider those download which started before 2AM & continued after 2AM into billable usage.so if you leave your modem on in pppoe mode modem will keep the connection continuous & even if you start your download at 2:05AM bsnl billing software will see this as a download which begins at 9PM & continued after 2AM & it will count it as billable.

Question checking router reboot

thank u for the reply

i have tried to reboot router from cmd prompt (telnet). well it did reboot once, but from then on am unable to open the router from cmd prompt.

problem is after typing "o 192.168.1.1" and entering the login name, am unable to provide the password ie., whatever i am typing is not being dispalyed on the screen and neither the cursor is moving. and when i press enter it just comes out.

looks like a very strange problem. has anyone faced such thing. pl share u opinion.

this is exactly what happens when you use command prompt.after entering username press enter then carefully type password.nothing will be shown on screen & neither the cursor will move.

so what does that mean? is that some kind of problem while using the command prompt? it did reboot once the first time.

now that this has happened i wonder whether router script for rebooting will work fine.

you can check if the script works by scheduling it to reboot at a time you can see it in action.if it does then no problem.also telnet does not show cursor because it does not support it when telnet is accessed using command prompt.if you want a better screen like windows & cursor use hyper terminal instead.it is in accessories---communications.

tried even that. No use. To be precise, the problem is when the script sent the password. After SEND "admin\m" , the modem ouput should be "> " no quotes included. But its not coming. AS a result the remaining WAIT, its not taking.I tried different types of Wait commands. like WAIT ">", WAIT "*", WAIT "> " etc. not working. When I press enter key, then the remaining part of the script is executing without any trouble and modem is getting rebooted.
Please let me know what should I give in WAIT command

after the password, \m works as enter key. but its not taken by modem. Hence ">" prompt is not coming. When I press manually , then it goes to prompt.

u can make a ppope connection in u'r royter which make the router to connect automatically when u switch on the router.

An application called "Auto power on" can help u to hibernate u'r pc and wake it up at u'r requires time.

Try to use torrents to get the best out of bsnl.

Hi,
thanks for the link. It says I need to configur the connection as Bridge mode. This is not practical for me since I have only windows firewall. And I want to keep the connection ans PPOE. Somebody told me there is a way to configur PPoe also in dial on demand.
And one more thing, I dont have rasdial.exe at the location specified by the author in the link.

Help me to configure my PPoe connection in dial on demand so that when my PC up from hibernation, it dials and start a new connection session. So that I dont need to reboot the modem.

regards,
Anand
